i'm korean but i always wondered how non-koreans perceived the sound of korean..
i'm talking about basic conversation not the exaggerated speech you see in k-dramas with the whiny voices and angry dudes
about to kill folks...

thanks...

Like Japanese, at odd times. When I can just hear it in the background and I'm not focusing on it, it sounds slightly like Japanese. But then if I focus on it, it sounds like Korean. Which, as I cannot speak the language, consists of a lot of "ch/jo/g" noises and "yo". (:

when i first listened to korean, i was like...
what in the freaking world is that gruff, vulgar-sounding language?
I was thinking it was some dialect of chinese that i didn't know of.
Or some language similar to Japanese.

But turns out that I loved it eventually. hahaha

I think Korean sounds whiny too..When my bf and I first started dating, he'd always talk to his friends in korean and I thought he was a huge whiner

but now that i'm actually learning it, i think it really flows. ^^

^Yeah. It sounds whiny and draggy. Maybe it's because of the -yah or -ah at the end of the words. And loud too. It's like they're always shouting. ^^

the korean they use at the airport and for announcements sounds really smooth and soothing.
the korean used by girls on the street sounds like whinny brats.
the korean on songs and some tv shows sounds like japanese when i'm not really paying attention.

at first I thought Korean sounded like Japanese..
at one time I thought it sounded like a mix of spanish and chinese..(weird..I know lol)
but now it seems to flow (can't think of a word to describe it really..)as mentioned above

Korean sounded Indian to me at first lol. Its spoken with a very deep sound (as opposed to japanese which sounds super high pitched).

It sounds weird to me. Not as weird as Mandarin (which I think is the ugliest Asian language out there) but ranking close behind.
