My desktop has a virus and it keeps shutting down my internet and it's really slow. When i bought this computer it came with rebooting CDs and i was wondering,

if i reboot my system, will it get rid of the virus and all the other malfunctions or will it remain?

i want to know before i decide to reboot my computer, because i don't want to lose all my files for no reason.
please help and explain =) thankyou so much!

uhm... reboot? or reformat? you mean Booting CDs?
If it is a virus that runs on startup, i doubt rebooting will solve the problem.
Okay i'm a little confused here..

Well, if there is a virus, have you tried starting up in Safe Mode, then running a virus scanner? For a free one you can check AVG virus scanner (google it.). To start up in Safe Mode, when booting up your computer, press F6 for advanced startup options and select safe mode.

Besides, are you sure it is a virus? There might be a trojan or spyware.
If you do not want to lose your files, you should keep a backup on a CD or external HDD.

Hope this helped?

idk what it is, but my computer was acting strange lately.
it's either a virus, trojan, or spyware. i'm not sure -__-

it started to go totally weird when my computer asked if i wanted an "antivirus 2008 xP" and i cannot get rid of it!

so, rebooting my system won't solve the problem?

antivirus 2008 xP is a spyware/trojan. you need to run an antispyware program to get rid of it.
try superantispyware or ad-aware, both are free programs.
