OK,
so to add to my parking lot woes, I will give you the brief version.
I parked my car in the morning of August 08, 2008 in the Central Parking Lot (right on mainstreet, across from 40th road, formerly known as Caldor).
They were full in the morning so i had to hand my keys to the guy working there.
BIG MISTAKE.
So after running some errands in flushing (glasses, ordering stuff at the bookstore, etc.) My wife and her family head out to central park, NYC, VIA the train.
Apparently, when i was still in Central Park, some goon took my car out for a ride and ran a red light.
I GOT A TICKET (via camera ontop of traffic light). Now I have to find some way to get them to pay $50 for a traffic violation I never commited.
Long story short, DO NOT TRUST THEM WITH YOUR KEYS.
TELL AS MANY PEOPLE YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS. It is NOT safe to leave your keys with them.
in case you are confused, i found a picture of the place on flickr:

oh man that sucks.. i guess the only way to prove it is if you took the picture of the odometer right before you handed them the key and also take a picture of the attendant inside your car. That way you'll know how much they drove.

good luck i hope you get them to pay it..

do you have receipt/ticket for parking ? (stating what time you began parking??)
and any of the places that you went to have surveillance camera actually working??????
good luck taking care of that plus i would definitely make them pay more than 50 bucks.

You said you had to run errands? If those errands involved you purchasing items, keep the receipt (for the time of purchase). Use that to prove that to help you weren't out there running that red light. I don't know how much it would help or not but sorry to hear that something this unfortunate happened to you.

if he ran the red light you should of just said to the cops he stole your car

so he would end up going to jail or paying the fee =]

It's a place many people go to park. If you are unfamiliar with the Central Parking System, they are the largest provider in the New York Area. It's not a shady place (at least, not by apperance). CPS has lots all over the theater district and all over uptown, downtown, and midtown. I felt that there was no need to question this parking lot. Apparently, I was wrong.
And no, it's not my fault for trusting an employee to do his Job.

Wooooooooooow.
Why would you hand your keys over?

You do realize that there are two HUUUUGE parking lots where you don't need to hand our keys to anyone? =____=;; Yeah, it's a bit of munnies, but there aren't as many risks.

When you find the employee, beat him up! RAWR >[

-Just read your info, you're from NJ. No wonder.
But come on. You can't miss the two largest parking lots D:

Lol
yes, i am from Jersey. But I go to flushing frequently enough (every weekend) to know where all the lots are. The problem is that every three hours, i need to run back to the big municipal lot behind Hong Kong supermarket.
And if i park in the small lot, that's 25 cents for every 10 min! This place is only 8 bucks for the whole day and considering that i usually stay there for lunch and dinner, that's usually where I go (plus, you have a 90% sucess rate on finding a spot, the other two lots, maybe 30% on a sat. afternoon). And it's always been standard operating procedure for these guys to keep your keys when they need to double park. And most of Central Parking Systems lots are valet in the first place, which is why i was misled to believing they were trustworthy.

I think all CPS u have to give them your keys. The municipal parking, i think if u pay 4 or 5 bucks (in quarters) u get to park for 8 hours straight.

Let's all go there with our baseball bats and steel pipes and threaten them to pay the $50 fine. laugh.gif

I'm kidding, obviously.
You shouldn't trust anyone with your car keys. Especially in Flushing.
I'm not being stereotypical or anything.. but come on. There's been incidents. phew.gif
I'd rather pay the 8 bucks at the municipal parking lot than pay 50 bucks for something I didn't do.

Uhh....everyone, this is a parking lot where the attendant will need your key to park the car. It's not the OPs fault for handing the keys over. OP, your only defense was that you weren't driving the car. Since a camera took the picture, they have no proof that it was you that ran the light.
