Feeling Of Being Unsafe? do you walk away, or stay?

aha, so today.. i went home early from school, & i took the bus.
the area im usually in has a slight bad rep.
so i know not to talk to anyone, & just head straight home.
while i was sitting, i noticed these 2 people who were heading towards me.
i look at them, & panic just a bit, deciding if i should get up or not.
cuz like, they were poorly dressed.. {not to be rude}
but i do know who the 'bad' people are around this community.
they smoke, their wardrobe is.. eh, & how they look at people etc.
i really do hate judging by the cover.. but still.
once these people came close to the bench i was sitting at.
i turned down my music a bit, & took one earphone out.
they walked behind it, & i waitied for a bit to check if they're away from me.
a minute later, i checked.. & they were right behind me, all quiet.
i started to freak out, so i grabbed my phone & 'pretended' to answer a call.
& was like.. "oh, you're here? k.. ill be there"
then i just booked it to this conveinient store, LOL.
so my question is, if you have a bad vibe from strangers.
do you usually walk away before time, or just stay not to be rude?
i usually try to walk away, but @ the same time i feel like im judging them. :[
but its better to be safe then being in danger, am'right?

I took summer school at a campus in downtown and the quickest way to get home was to take a subway and a bus ride before walking home.
Whenever I am waiting for the bus after getting of the subway, I noticed that a lot of guys tend to get up and stand right behind me O__o
At first I thought I was being paranoid, but I noticed that it happens a lot. Anyway, so there was this Chinese guy once who was right behind me.
On the bus, he sat in the chair right behind me, too. Then when I got off, he got off at the same spot. To make things worse, I walk by a forest.
The neighborhood I live in is a bunch of bigger houses and the streets are pretty dead silent and quiet (especially at night).
I started walking and he was following. I started walking faster as I acted that I was cold (which is funny since this happened in the SUMMER).
It turns out that the dude lives two or three houses down from me. But hey, it was sketchy considering how the bus ride is a thirty minute ride!
I usually walk away from strangers. If they ask me for something, I quickly answer them and walk away (if someone is clearly lost, I will help).
Anyway, it happened on Canada Day. I was in the subway station and I was walking towards the escalators that lead to the buses.
Some guy approached me. He was quite short, but the way he dressed gave off the wrong impression. Not to be rude.. it was "gangster" style.
He had sunglasses on and he had a beard. But what shocked me the most was that he had a toothpick? sticking out of his chin O__o
He comes up to me and asked me if the escalator going up will take him to the buses. I told him "yes", and I walked away.
Let's just say that when you are on an escalator, there is really no place for you to avoid someone without being rude (.. right?).
So there I was, stuck on an escalator with some really sketchy guy who started asking me a bunch of questions.
He asked me where I was from. I was worried since it was after midnight and the only other person around was some dude behind us.
On the top of my head, I named the town of where my school is located. I thought he would stop, but he kept going.
He seemed shocked and said that he knew people who lived there. Then he kept on pressing on about which street I lived on.
(He was probably shocked since the school I go to, it is the second most dangerous place to live in around here).
When he asked, I just went silent and ignored him. So he kept on repeating the answer, so I named the longest street I knew in the area.
After that, he asked me if I was going home since I lived in the random town I said I lived in. I told him, "yes".
Thank goodness he was not bright enough to realize that none of the buses took me to the city and I would've taken the subway to get there.
If he kept on following me, I would have walked right back down the escalators. After all, he told me where he was going before..

always ALWAYS follow your instinct.... unlesss your hopeless with that stuff. xD
one time i got cornered with my little bro at a freakin futureshop by some fat bastard and his friend. i pointed at some whitelady and yelled HEY MOM. and they moved aside. lol.... im arabic hahahahahaah
i cant even start to count how many times ive either gotten off at a bus stop early ( right next to a mac or 7/11 to call for my mom or dad to pick me up) or repeated the route to my house... that was when i moved to the NE . ask anyone in calgary. THATS the ghettos right there. esp at night. damn is it shady.
EDIT_ btw a week later, i read about that green vaned dude in METRO, he tried to snatch some elementry kid 3 blocks off my house. he followed her home and waited for her for hours. i shouldve reported that bastard. i regret not doing it. but it was dark and i barely can see anything only a green square van.

Normally, I rather save my neck than risk it, you know?
Like you never know! Safety first, people!
I usually walk away as casually as I can.
You don't wanna like...run for it and make them chase after you.
LOL! Or what if they weren't even after you at all, then you'll just look stupid.
I try to remain calm at all times. I don't know, or else it'll just anger the person even more.

but if I'm with friends, I just tell them I feel a bit nervous, and if anyone else feels the same, then
we all leave. But if nobody else does I just relax, unless I keep feeling nervous then I'd bring it up
again.

i just do an excuse pretending i'm calling someone on phone or text messaging XDDDDD
or look at the time and go like "OMG I HOPE I'M NOT TOO LATE!!"
>__<;;
cause those times... i had that times A LOT not funny at all
well few times, depends on my mood like if i'm so angry and strangers that look scary and rude
comes up to me and if they say rude things or asking scary questions, i go crazy at them like
i turn psycho mode and just b**ch at them and scream as loud as much as i can so they can
leave me alone o__o

The way I do it makes them know that I'm being expected somewhere and know that there are more than just 1 person where I'm going.
Edit: If I got off way to early, my parents would be more than happy to come pick me up. They rather be annoyed than me not going home.

There was this old guy roaming around my bus stop this morning. He was just walking around and I was standing there talking with my friend. Well, that old guy was just walking around staring at us like O_O. It looked like he was a kidnapper or something. He just kept lookin at us like he was gonna eat us alive. We didn't know what to do, so we thought we should wait for the bus and thank god the bus came right away. It was freaking scary.
