Hello Soompiers. ^.^

This isn't a question for me, but I'm concern about my guy friends...all of them.

At school, there's this sports club and you have to stay for at least three hours or more depending on your mood. They workout and play sports there (my guy friends tell me this). They attend this club for five days, all of the school days except for Wednesday (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday) after school from 3 - 6 +, and Saturday at 12 - 3. If you think about it, that's like 15 + hours per week and even more since they work out outside of school (hours of basketball and more exercising). I'm just a little worried for them because of those hours.

So, what's the average number of hours should we (males and females) work out per week?
And how much is too much?

Thanks for those who are reading and posting!
And I'm SO sorry if there's a topic about this already.
Mods, feel free to close if it is.

--edit
I would also like to add that they don't eat before their workout. We have lunch, but that's like 3 hours before their workout. Shouldn't they at least eat something before doing their intense work out? unsure.gif
Okay, they do eat, but they get like cookies and chips. dry.gif

Heh I work out like 2-3 hrs a day, like 6 times a week.
That makes at least 12 hrs/week too .. I think it really depends on individual to decide on how long they should exercise a week, also intensity counts. If they’ve been doing this for so long, I think they’re probably so used to it. Most importantly is to get some rest as well.

Depends on fitness level, nutrition, sleep
and goals. For bodybuilding purposes 1 hour in and out
for naturals. If they're training cardio and stuff for
basketball it should be fine as long as those
things i said in the beginning of my post are all
in check.

they're probably used to it jEAn.
if they're working out properly i don't see why not.. plus they get wednesdays off and i'm assuming sunday ? so i would think its for them to allow their muscles to recuperate.

i play volleyball at school. practice is 2 hours everyday. so thats what. 10 hours every week ? but then again there are games on tuesday and thursday.

15+ hours a week for the average high school athlete is normal, as Mak said, it really depends on the person. If your out of shape you may be lucky to get in 5 hours a week. College and Pros train higher 20+ hours and Olympians like Michael Phelps 25+ hours. Soldiers train much longer hours then all of the above. If you look at any of the testing for special forces and operations its more savage then what you could imagine.. if your friends are scurring you o.O

Now if you are talking powerhouse teams and state champions ~ the elites of the high school scene they do 20+ hours or more.

If I weight train I try to get everything done as effectively and as soon as possible. As Makaveli said in and out. Overworking your muscles in strength training is just worthless. As for cardio and stuff... as much as you can tongue.gif

wow, they're trying to be buff, huh? ^__^ what do they do in there anyways, like what kind of work outs?

i say this is pretty normal for these guys. eating cookies and chips? O__O why not give them protein bars or some fruit? just make sure they eat~~!! we don't want them to pass out.

and since they're free wednesdays and sundays, it'll be okay right? they'll relax their muscles.
why so serious? soompi is here for everyone's entertainment, not one group.

Here's what they told me so far. They do cycling on those bikes, work on the weight machines, and play sports but with snacks in between, and their snacks are chips and cookies. ph34r.gif They also play basket ball and work out outside of school too, so that's like 20 + hours for them then. So yeah they work out on Sundays and Wednesdays.
And one of the guys isn't even eating! o_o

Thanks for the replies everyone!

I'm assuming they are in high school or.. younger..? Their diet sucks ~ but in the end this is more of a cardiovascular type of training regimen. It doesn't have as high of an impact on their nervous system at the level they are at, with the knowledge they have.. all they are doing really is having fun. Nothing to worry about. Nothing to stress about ~ though if you really want to be helpful to a bunch of guys whom most likely won't play @ the Division 1 level. Buy them pizza whenever you get the chance and gatorade ;p If you are really concerned, it would be the lack of food and their consistent calorie expenditure in relation to the exercise they perform that helps burn calories.

In fact I'd be more worried about YOU. Do you exercise? If so how often? What is your body-fat percentage? Do you jiggle when you jump up and down or run? How confident are you at putting on a bikini and going to the beach?

Let us worry about you as these guys are young athletes doing just fine - tho they could be more effective with their training if they ate better. But I don't think you are getting the full deal.. nor do I think you'd get any worthy information if they note their snacks are chips and cookies. They'll burn that off within an hour of playing.

SO BACK TO YOU!

Yeah they're in high school, but the teachers give them those snacks. I keep encouraging them to eat something healthy, like fruits or bring SOMETHING to eat before their workout.

And now to me ^.^ Yes I do exercise and I say about an 1 - 2 hours at least every day. I have no idea what's my body-fat percentage. ph34r.gif I never really knew how. Only my arms are jiggly, but I'm working on those now. ^.^ As for the bikini, I love them -- but I only go down the beach like once a year. o_o

I think they're fine, and I hate to say it... but especially since they're guys.

I used to work out for 20+ hours a week and you just have to make sure you get plenty of rest and liquids. But they should be able to know when they can't handle it. Besides, it's nothing too strenous right? Just some sports, etc.

Female here...

I do 9 a week. 30min(major cardio) when I wake up and 1.5hr(weight training, cardio and 10 minutes of yoga) in the evening before I eat dinner. I do this 6 times a week...7th day I rest my body. it helps the muscle build and become stronger....gotta give it rest. Plus I tend to eat waaaaay more than normal men so I have to do something to keep the weight off. It's all about sacrifice and I'd rather sacrifice time than my food.

anyway, if you do too much without resting and adequate stretching...as a woman, you get bulky and that's just ew....well unless you want to go into body building...then I guess that's the point. Personally I'm all for lean muscle. can't have people know you can kick their ass just by looking at you happy.gif SURPRISE A pinkberry!

OH...I down a banana 40 minutes before the evening workout. That one baby gives me enough energy to do my 90 minutes...plus tastes good Bananas are great for energy.
