The 'asian' food doesn't compare? Oh no you didn't! (HaHa) Actually, I'm assuming you've only tried the handful of joints in Manhattan, meanwhile there's an endless plethora of ethnic eats in other parts of NY. Like the infamous, Flushing - home to the majority of korean/chinese immigrants in NY. It is practically Seoul (or Shanghai). It's just one of them places where speaking english can be a handicap. There is such awesome food in NY. I've recently been frequenting Korea and China for business (about 3 times in the past year alone to be exact) - and some of the food here IS better than that of the motherland(s). Either way, I'm a big foodie and I think there's def' something to be said about people's opinions on which food is better. It has alot to do with where you've grown up, what you're used to and what one actually considers to be 'good'.
Although countless friends have told me about a place in L.A that has dduk-sam-gyup-sal (Rice cake Pork Belly) ... And even when all else fails - L.A always has In-N-Out. We New Yorkers bow to In-N-Out. =)
hehe...oh yea i did! i've been around queens/flushing for korean food, drinks, etc. you can call it a bias if you want, but hands down i think LA has a wider variety and better overall quality in terms of asian food than that of new york. there may be a few hot spots up there with good food, maybe even something we may not be able to find in LA (and if there are, please do share), but i dont think queens/flushing will ever beat out LA. hehehe
as for in-n-out, it's nice, but i'd say gray's papaya is worth more the hype than in-n-out. but then again, im more of a hot-dog lover
