BoA has a chance, of course.

I don't get all this shizz about Asians not making it into American industry. My word, they are going to, it's bound to happen. People don't focus on race as a barrier or an excuse for discrimination that much anymore... I do believe the generation coming up will be very multicultural so, really, anything is possible.

To be fair, Utada was marketed horrifically for her American debut. One of her U.S. singles was titled Easy Breezy with the lyrics, "You're easy breezy and I'm Japanesey." Terrible and mildly racist. Not to mention it had vapid lyrics and a boring music video.

The problem is that BoA and SM look like they're making the same exact mistakes as Utada did. The beat's catchy, but the lyrics are bizarre and the U.S. music video looks plain and gray. Not to mention that I Eat You Up sounds like a colloquialism for oral intercourse.

I wish the best for her, and it would be great if I'm proven wrong and she succeeds, but her prospects look pretty bad right now.

I agree. Many Americans aren't close-minded, and there is racism inherent across the globe.

If BoA does not succeed it will because of poor marketing and song choice. Not racism.

pretty much exactly what i thought at first

also
i just listened to the song

its awful
you can tell her english isnt good, the video is soooooooo badly made as well, imean theress parts that they put that the lips dont even match what shes saying.. O_O

I'm not the one lacking intelligence dear.

I had been backtracking all the pages and I have came back with one conclusion.

EverCool dislikes BoA. That's it.

I really hope BoA can make it. I'm currently in love with Eat You Up though even I agree it's not a good song.
But it's way addictive for me. BoA can't beat Britney because Britney speaks more fluent in English which is the core
of US songs. You speak bad in their language, you're gone. As for BoA, I think she needs more time. MORE time
till she can be successful in US. Will love BoA & Britney no matter what~! ♥♥♥

I dislike her music, I don't think she can sing or dance but you know what? I admire her. She worked alot to have the position that she has now and nothing was ever giving to her. She is the best female dancer in Asia.(thats not saying much though...) So i undertsand why ppl like her. I'm not a hater I always give credit where credit is deserve.

She just shouldn't come to America.

^I agree. Jang ri in reminds me Leona Lewis. Both can sing, but are so boring.

Boa has more of a chance because of her singing-dancing skills, but even then I doubt she'd make it with "eat you up". Her songs like "girls on top" or "moto" were so much better.

And Jang Ri In is changing that. She won't have that many ballads in her new album coming out later this year. She said it going to be more upbeat and sensual so we all have to wait for that and see if she actually does it. And if she does. She has a higher chance.

I don't see how these Korean performers keep going astray in the US. What ever happened at studying another's failures and learning from them? I feel like...the Korean music companies keep making the same damn mistakes with Rain, Boa, and Se7en. Bland songs. Bland videos. Sub-par English. They are rushing these debuts when their performers can't even give casual interviews in English...and yet they're expecting the American public to wet its panties in anticipation? It's like they have an IDEA of what music Americans will think is a big hit but it's just a weird, pale imitation.

I listened to the complete song and it didn't blow me away at all. I didn't even feel excited. It was just a repetitive beat with a noticeable accent.

Wouldn't it be so much easier for the Korean record labels find a Korean-American to be their "golden ticket" into the American music industry? It would solve the problem of communication, knowledge of pop culture, and other hindering problems that singers from Korea may/will face in the States?

off-topic, does BoA and her record label know the sexual innuendo that can be derived from song titles such as "Eat You Up" and her Korean song "Girls on Top"?

I completely do not agree with you.
I think they need to try first, even it means failure. This single is just for testing, BoA's 1st single in Japan failed miserably but she kept trying.
It's hard to loose an accent. Even myself live in the states so many years, I still have an accent. So you guys cannot expect "BAM" and she completely fluent in English and has no accent whatsoever. Just watch a vid BoA speaking in Enlgish 2 years ago and you will see how big of an improvement she made.
And it is good for artists to aim higher! At least she tries and learns a lesson from her own failure.(if the single flops). You want to success? You have to fail first.
I don't really like EYU to be honest, but i will give credit for her because she is so brave for making a huge decision regardless the consequence (so do se7en and bi). If the artists want their music to be noticed by the whole world. So let it be.

That would be the smart thing to do now wouldn't it?

I agree with the post above on one thing Boa english as improved. But then again i don't see how learning english fluently better your chances in America, We are the big mixing pot. Alot of ppl here don't know english as their first lang. Its not that big of a deal like som eof these ppl on soompi is making it out to be.

BoA's set to appear on American shows (.__.) ~~

SM Ent. announced prior to the promotion of the song in America, BoA was set to practice her English interviewing skills, hot to properly answer questions and so on. Radio promotion will be done as well.

SM Ent. also said BoA will appear on major American shows to promote Eat You Up . . .

I wonder how that will go?

BoA's lyricist who wrote Eat You UP might not be from S.M but instead from or hired by the Australian company - BHMG.

BHMG (Bell Hughes Music Group) is in charge of distributing & developing BoA's LOOK WHO'S TALKING album,.

From BHMG:

Hayden Bell has been working closely with Korean superstar BOA, taking role as her executive producer for her upcoming release. Preparation for the album has been extensive with Bell coordinating top writers around the globe. Bell has secured placements on the album BHMG writer Adrian Newman. This million selling artist has plans to debut in the U.S. in 2008.

Also, BoA's voice was MEANT to be robotic.

It's for crying out loud Bloodshy&Avant - most of their songs have artists voice mutilated into robots or computers like Britney Spears.

Aish, I agree. I mean...SM keeps having these huge auditions in the States...just have one of THEM come out in the US! If they speak Korean AND they speak English fluently...what's the problem here? I feel like SM will try to do this in the upcoming years, though. They'd be quite stupid if they were having all these US auditions without even considering having one of the future trainees debut in the US.

some of ya need to stop all that hatting.
If you dont have any constructive critiscm or postive things to say then just stop posting . Its getting tiresome.
We get it, You dont like the song. Stop reposting the same thing over again.

Anyhoo, no matter what happens I have faith in BoA.
We all need to come together and support her.
Prove all these hatters wrong.

Ya, and i heard one member from boajjang said that the song is played in one club in NYC. "The club is probably the hardest club to get in/hottest club in NYC right now and is famous for a lot of music artists going there (Jay-Z and Flo Rida have songs that can only be played there)" and the respond is people like it. I think this song will hit the club! for sure

How about we conduct a survey??

Rip the MP3 of this song, let people around us listen to it (WITHOUT knowing who the singer is and her background) and see if people like it.

Keep a tally. and soon we'll all find out if she's gonna succeed or not biggrin.gif

personally i hope she will since, i really want to see her perform live.

The first time I heard this song I thought it'd probably fail... but after hearing it a second time, I think it's pretty good. I mean, to me it sounds better than the stuff Britney's been coming out with :x

Only time can tell.. but I'm really excited about her debut n_n

^I think she/he is saying that asian stars in general have no chance in debuting in america. i agree. they dont have as much talent as american stars do. we tend to get ignored by the american industry a lot o_o

all I have to say is LOL LOL LOL
There are plenty American celebs that have no talent whatsoever yet they have hits.

& how do you know American stars have more talent than Asian stars? That's a very general statement. and I don't understand where you got that from........

She sounds very Asian (the accent? idk). There's something in the way she sings it that you can pick up right away her origins. I think I'll conduct my own little survey anyway just to see what my friends think about the song.
