heya all

so its like this.

my sister,26 this yr, asked to report to her workplace about her decisions on going to study to japan or continuing to work in her home country.
and so.. she was going to get her offer to be the head of the medical department. IF she wont go for the scholarship to japan.
She actually worried about japan's employment and the living environment there. can say she wants to stay at her home country more.
i told her its either you want to improve on ur life or just stay the same working working for money.
mom was abit unconvinced since she said she might be at home after she grad at japan.

basically shes kinda confused between two. i cant really help her because im still studying in college and having no mature thinking.
if i were her im going to study cus these opportunities wont just come like that.

i heard the certs in japan is not recognizable around the world?

btw the uni she applied is tohoku university.

i appreciate some help if you guys can voice your comments out? i simply want her to get out of her frustrations :]

I'm like you. I would tell her to study. Work can always come later...i mean, you will work pretty much the rest of your life. Studying in another country and a full scholarship on the other hand is rare. I've visited Tohoku Daigaku before, I think it's nice. My bf studied there for a year in the engineering department. Campus is small, but I really like the place. It's nice and relaxing. They also have a lot of international students. I would definitely recommend it. But yea, it is hard to give up on your current lifestyle and move somewhere completely different.

what is she going to study in japan? she's still young, and if she's going to study for a year or two, then i think it'll be a good chance to experience new things; but the risks, such as taking time off from working, may hurt her. she should think in the long term. what is she expecting from her life? does she want security? then, stay. does she want to try new things and learn more about life? then, go. of course, you can gain wisdom at where she is right now, but sometimes people need to fly.

-sometimes we are worse off than the chained minds of animals. we have a choice--they don't--we decide not to unshackle ourselves.

I'd definitely choose head of the medical department since the salary is most likely over 100k a year. You can always study in the US, while working. Studying abroad is no big deal. You can always visit there.

visiting is different than studying abroad. once you start working full time, you dont get time to do really visit and travel. making over 100k is no big deal. id rather go study abroad.

it isnt... being immature as i was, i thought making over 100k was going to make me really happy. but in order to do that, i had to give up alot of things. i had to give up finishing college with my buddies and move somewhere else, something i really regret. i wanted to go study abroad for a semester but never had the time. now that im working full time, i dont really get time to do travel anywhere. my friend asked me to visit korea next year but i wont be able to due to work.

the money is great and all but what good is it if you have to give up things you really want to do? money cant buy the memories i would of had with my friends back at school. money isnt going to buy me time to go travel for longer periods of time.

another thing, i freaking hate high taxes.

i guess its something that you need to have to experience it... i've never earned more than 12k a year (i just turned 21 and i've always been a full time student except my 1st year).
so something like 100k to me is a big deal because i guess i didn't grow up in too much of a affluent surrounding. but are u sure the op's sisters job offering comes with no vacations and such? i know quite a few people that make more than 100k/year that get like paid vacations and such.

to the op... i think you should be just supportive of whatever decision she makes.

It depends on how much importance money has to her. I'm sure if she can become the head of the medical department, she can easily obtain lower paying jobs and rework her way up even if she comes back from studying without her old job. Is the experience worth it for her for this loss? Thats a question she can only answer. I have to say, though its completely not the same, that I gave up graduating early from undergrad for a study abroad experience and it was worth it.

really depends on her goals in life. i thought i'd go to grad school when i graduated undergrad, but after working, i decided i didn't really need it. im doing what i want to do already. when it's time for a career change, i will consider it, but i wouldn't go to grad school 'just in case' i feel like doing something else later.

what your sis wants to do with her life, she should figure out and see where studying fits in. i wouldn't study because i wont get that chance later. i wouldn't take the job because i can earn more money now. i don't believe that formal education is the only way to improve yourself. if you do well enough, your company will send you to get proper schooling because you need the training and they want to keep u around.

life is balance. it's doing what you want to do, while earning the money to support the lifestyle you want to live. make a list of priorities and map out your life as you see it now, and do what makes the most sense for yourself.

i would think in this way for female(no offensive)

if she is really pretty or talent with something, and she could get a job easily with what she have now. Or she have a boyfriend that can let her marry soon then stay at where she is now.

if not i guess she should get a life in japan and study more. i think female at 26 should get a baby as soon as possible so she can work hard later for her family.

reading more books could help her to make out her decsion.
