it's entirely up to you.
i wanted to take a year off but i've seen a few of my friends who did take time off and they just never ended up going to college. one of them works 3 jobs a day and says he wished he had never taken time off but when your in the cycle of working non-stop, applying just slips your mind.

why would you do that? XD i guess you should consider on what you're majoring in.
if you're majoring on something that would require more credits & work, then i don't
think you should waste a year lol.

don't procrastinate or else you'll end up not going to college at allllll --;

I wouldn't. Taking a year off is for before grad school, not undergrad imo. I knew maybe 2 people that took a year off before school and I don't know if that experience was rewarding for them but it seemed like they made it worthwhile.

I wouldn't recommend taking a year off before college, especially if you plan on attending college. You would want to take a year off after four years of undergrad before you decide what you want to do in life whether it be attending graduate school or perhaps getting a job that doesn't require graduate school but requires job experience and your undergrad degree or something else. Of course if you are hesitant about going into undergrad then take half a year off. Taking a full year off before undergrad you will just get sidetracked.

If you enter undergrad college, you can always take a term off anyway, depending on the college you are in.

It's all up to you and I have some friends who are not in school right now and they'll start in the spring. It's really hard to get back into school mode since you're so used to just working (if you have a job or not), but most people turn out fine.

College is so fun! You should go anyways! (But then again, it is really expensive too) Like others mentioned, most people who take time off after high school tend to have to work almost twice as hard when they go back to college. The lifestyle of working and school is completely different. But just go to school whenever you're ready. No need to rush.

you know it may or may not be a good idea.
if you leave school and start working... you might get lazy and not want to go back to school :\ (hahahaha, that's what my family is worried about in my case, since I'm taking a year off between college and grad school next year)

Well, it depends on the person. But, personally I wouldn't just to be on the safe side. Because once you get use to not going to school and stuff for such a long period time you might end up procrastinating and it'll probably be harder to get back into school life.

I took a year off to save money so I didn't have to take out loans. it worked for me cause I knew there was no way in hell I wouldn't go to college and cause my mom told me she was kicking me out, so I better go to school! I say, if you've lived a sheltered life and never had to really do anything for yourself, take the year off cause it'll make you appreciate school so much more. I wish some of my spoiled brat friends would've done this. but anyways, if you've lived a well rounded life and know what it's like to not be able to depend on mommy and daddy, then just go to school.

I hope that made sense.....

I was planning to take a semester off, and resume in Spring. My plan didnt really work out because I had to be a full-time student for my mom's insurance to cover me...or else I'll have to pay for my own health insurance, which is pretty expensive. So here I am in a community college. I think taking a year off isn't a big deal. Just as long as you have a rock solid plan on what you're going to do next year (what school you're planningto attend, the housing, ..etc) then it's fine.
Originally I was planning to take a semester off because I wanted to save up $$$, since my parents did tell me directly that they are not going to pay for any of my colelge expenses. Right now, I can only pretty much rely on the $$ fafsa gives me, and my part-time job.

only reason why i would take that first year off is if i had an idea or an opportunity i just don't wanna miss out on. otherwise, it's really a waste of time. if you have no plan on what you are going to accomplish in place of school, you shouldn't miss out. you can do ALOT in one year, and you'll regret bumming around as soon as you graduate and think how you wish you coulda done more.

I did for a few months and I'm glad I did because I went on a trip with my grandparents and had a nice time with them and have some nice memories which I treasure now because my grandfather is gone. I wouldn't recommend a year or anything but maybe a term would be okay.

I'd say take a gap year after college and before you work.

I decided to do that instead since i was in school mode from highschool transitioning to University.

To some people it might work for the best, they might come back relaxed and ready or just become too relaxed and stressed from the work.

i would handle the academics first and then break later. you always have summers in between to rest?

if you feel like you wanna take a gap... then go for it...
but IMO it's better to start college right away... don't waste a full year of your life... you may need it some other time...
plus, if you took a gap year... you won't feel like coming back to study again...

my friends who have taken
a semester or a year off before
or during their college years before
graduation have all *not* gone
back to school full time ...

alot of them find it hard to adjust
from working and/or playing and
a bit embarassing to be
'behind' in classes than
people their age to go back to school

its better to keep the momentum
going and follow through with
at least your undergrad. if you wanna
take a year off between graduation
and work or grad school, i think its
an excellent way to decide how to
plan out what you want for your life
and career
