I just want to know how many of soompiers here pay for their tuttion, take finaid, or got a private student loan?

I am thinking about applying for a private student loan since i am working at least 32 hrs a week trying to pay half my tuttion.

Also, if you apply for a private student loan, which lender did you choose?

I get financial aid, but I also take out a small subsidized loan. Other than that, I also work--though I don't have much hours right now. I'm currently in the process of finding a new job.

In addition to tuition, I also have to pay rent, which my parents help me out with. They contribute 500$ each month for partial rent, everything else (food, expenses, travel, bills, etc) I take care of. I'm lucky because I have several relatives who like to "donate" money (hundred/couple hundred at a time) to me because they're afraid I'm going to starve, haha.

So that's how I am surviving the financial part of college life right now. ;]

This year I've had to take out ~$11,500 in loans... most of them are subsidized though and I think that's good... ? Otherwise I got some work study (don't really see how it helps though since I already have a good job), and a good amount of money from grants/scholarships. Need to apply for more next time~

Since I'm sharing a 1 bedroom apartment with 2 other people my rent is pretty cheap... ~$300/mo. Usually I can pay for that with my paycheck, and my sister's rent too. .__.;;

I wonder how out of state and international students do it... .__.;;

Loans, all loans through the school. However, I do need to take out a private $4k loan for fall quarter...and I don't know who I should go for. Is Wells Fargo any good?

I have loans and my parents have loans and pay for some of the tuition. And after I graduate and get a 2nd degree I am going to get more loans.

University and College systems here in the DR are totally different from the ones in the USA, some would get a scholardship other would work to pay for their education or their parents would pay for them.
My parents paid for my education including University. I worked for 2 of the 4 years my major was to help out with buying books and any other material and things I would needed, the rest my parents.

Some people are just more lucky than others when it comes to financial aid. For me, I paid my tuition with the full-tuition scholarship I received. I applied for it very early though...in October of my senior year. Also, while I was in college, I still applied for additional scholarships, which were always a nice bonus.

I only had to pay for living, which I survived by working part-time.

I'm an out of state but pay as much as an international student.... errr, let me take that back, I'm considered an international student tuition wise. tongue.gif

My parents pay for everything right now but if our financial situation takes a turn for the worse I'll be taking out loans.

i attend for free.

a lot of need-based university grants, need-based federal grants, some scholarships from outside sources, and i currently hold an RAship so my housing/food is taken care of by the university.

generous grant money is one of the biggest benefits of attending a private school, assuming that they have a large endowment.

My parents pay for my school. I know I'm really lucky that I don't have to worry about money. People think that I take it for granted, but I don't. However, I still sort of worry about money, because I feel guilty to my parents. They tell me to just ask them for money when I need it, which I hate because I feel like I'm a beggar... If it was a set allowance per month or something, it'd be so much easier to budget and everything... :I

simple solution: don't ask for money in the first place. get a part-time job on or near campus so you don't have to depend on them financially.

Why not just do that? Tell them just to give you a couple hundred every month or something, enough to survive basics with some left over, and use the part time job for more money. biggrin.gif It's easier to manage money if it's a set amount / month.
