Stinky tofu is a form of fermented tofu, which, as the name suggests, has a strong odor. It is a popular snack in East and Southeast Asia, particularly Taiwan, Indonesia, and China, where it is usually found at night markets or roadside stands, or as a side dish in lunch bars. From a distance, the odor of stinky tofu is said to resemble that of rotten garbage or manure, even by its enthusiasts. In spite of stinky tofu's smell, the flavor is surprisingly mild.

Has anyone tried these tofu? I've always wanted to try them but it's not sold at my place. My cousin who went to Hong Kong tried it and she loved it.

I saw Andrew Simmermen eat some and he made me gag. But I still want to try it.
Though, the process it goes through is really unpleasant.

Ah, I don't know. I usually can't stand to eat/drink something if it doesn't really smell all that appetizing. I want to try this because all my friends talk about how it's actually pretty good but I depend upon my nose a lot when it comes to food sad.gif

If it doesn't smell good, I probably wouldn't eat it.

those toufu are amazing!
they stink soooooo badly but the taste so damn good

taiwan have the best stinky toufu
and theres even a street dedicated to it!!!
because too many people have been complaining about how stinky the whole street is, somehow they manage to formulate it till its less smelly but taste as good as before
me and my sister ate like two toufus each, they just taste so good.
and i swear, on normal basis, even though i seen it many times before, its really really worth trying

I eat it every time I go to Hong Kong
It's quite tasty, but doesn't have a very strong flavor. Tastes good with sweet sauce =D
It stinks so bad though XD
I remember we could smell stinky tofu the first time I ever went to Hong Kong,
and I was wondering what that disgusting smell was...I thought it was from a garbage dump and sewers

The process of cheese is not unpleasant. It's just boiled milk, some bacteria (the good ones you find in everyday food) and aged like you would with ham.

Stinky tofu depending on the kind, can be fermented in what looks like water garage which is basically rotten vegetables.

STINKY TOFU IS AMAZINGGGGGGG

You DEFINITELY need to try it in Asia/Taiwan!!!!
yummm<3
The crispy texture, delicious flavor, yummy sauce, pickled cabbage on the side...
*swoons* I miss eating it already!!

The only bad part is that it's DEEP FRIED and REALLY bad for you tongue.gif
Who cares if it's stinky?? it tastes AMAZING

i skimmed over the comments, and I must say - i really really DISLIKE TOFU. I avoid it if possible. But Stinky Tofy is a delicious exception to that, for me!

certain cheeses smell just as bad to people who are not used to a lot of dairy in their diet.
