i'm a freshmen, and i play football (first year actually)
and i'm a d. tackle (but probably will transition into a d. end soon.) and a o. tackle (but as soon as i get my plays down, i can become a gaurd, but everything isnt final) i play on JV (no freshmen team)
and basically, coach sed i was one of the best linemen in the freshmen grade. i'm 5'11 at 200 lbs, with a 5.6: 40 meter.
and i'm the 4th strongest kid in the grade. i got the first JV tackle (3 in total) from the JV d. line.
enuff with the football (sry if it seemed like i was bragging)

and, i wanna try to get sports an almost daily part of my life, and in the winter, there really isnt anything except basketball..like i said i'm 5'11 and since i used to do tae kwon do i have good hops. i wanna play basketball..but as of right now, i'm really bad haha...i cant really shoot..and i just CANT play.
and i have now until december to practice, but i only have like about 3-4 days a week to practice...but idk HOW to get better at it, good so i can start in december and actually play.

similar situation i had... well the short amount of time i had that is...

best tip.... play with people who are good..... thats where you'll learn the right stuff and knowledge...

as for your position.... 5'11 is a bit taller than SG's so you'll make a good SF... as a SF... work on your body STR (prob already did from football) and shooting/rebounding.... as for shooting

think of it as your elbow pointing where the ball goes... a lot of problems in forms i see (and a form i had too) was where people stick their elbow to their sides... when you shoot, you should literally push the ball forward (well not push, but shoot it forward) when you have your elbow sticking out, another force acts on it so it messes the form up. also, when you shoot, use your legs ONLY, never shoot using your arm strenght, your arms are there to guide the ball, your force is your legs. Speaking of guiding, if you're a right handed shooter, your left hadn is your guide hand, that means it should do NOTHING except help you bring the ball up for a shot. your left hand should be on the side... literally on the side. i had a problem where i got used to putting my left hand like a bit in front of the ball, this also causes another force to be acting. like literally, you would be pushing against your own hands. a good way to check for hand positioning is by looking at your thumbs, they should form a V or a T whichever feels more comfortable. dont connect the thumbs though...

wow that was long, anyway other than that... uhh just play and practice... shoot 600-1000 shots a day. this way your muscles will start to remember the form.... WORK SLOWLY.. never try working fast... if you can only shoot free throws DONT try 3 pointers... it'll just ruin your motivation and confidence.... which is an important aspect of playing too

learn how to shoot from a coach, a player, youtube. Everybody has to know how to shoot. You gotta know where to focus on while shooting and the stroke. It's kind of hard to tell you've improved in most areas of basketball until you try them out in real games. The only thing you'll really know you're improving on is when you practice shooting. Obviously you'll see the ball go through the hoop a lot more. You gotta pick at everybodies brains dude. You understand from playing football since you gotta get mentored until you grow into a great player. For defense, work on defensive slides. Defense is huge. You're a big dude, if you can keep up with guys that are smaller in weight dude you're gonna be a huge defensive stopper.

You can look at this site for the fundamentals. Don't try to be able to everything. practice just like a football mentality, you're a d-tackle. Go be the best D-tackle you can be. Same for basketball.

Go to the coach and ask what position he'd imagine you playing if you made the team. Watch some NBA stuff since the bball season is soon starting and watch the players that play your position. Watch what they do and learn from that. Let me know if you want to know more.
