since the growth and boom of the internet was the mid to late 90's, i figure that 20+ has had the best exposure to internet since it became open to the typical computer user. that said... how many of you have left a massive digital footprint on the web? for instance, can a stranger from 5 years ago that you've lost contact with still find you by googling you up? perhaps time travel to the past and pick up a scent of your trail on archive.org?

i've been in the chatroom/forum scene since the mid/late 90's [cgi-based forums, newsgroups, irc, etc], and i think through most of it, i kept my identity generic enough that it would be hard to find me unless you had a key piece of information, though i guess some pro googlers might be able to prove to me otherwise. [feel free to give it a shot if you like ^^]

dont know why, but the fact that one can google you up and find you easily is a bit disturbing. you never know who might be out there. but anyways... how many of you are easy to track down online? perhaps if they put down a keyword in google, you come out in the top 5 search results? hehe... what's YOUR digital footprint?

I actually googled my name and my old college out of boredom, and found myself listed on this site called "PeekYou." o__o It's supposed to be some sort of internet white pages, and it had my name and school info, and my myspace linked there. It had a picture too--though not a picture of me, but one that I had as a default on myspace some years ago.

There's something about me on Linked In too. o__o

It's rather creepy, because I have no idea how all this information got there. I don't recall signing up for such a service. I'm kind of scared now.

nope i'm not on there. haha. i didn't really look too thoroughly. i found something similar to peekyou except it's called findanyone or something like that. a lot of people have the same first and last name as i do. lol.

if you just type my name i'm hard to find (thank god ;;) but if you type my name and the city i live in im pretty easy to find.

Yeah there is a way to find a majority of forums I have been to but all I leave behind are my ideas so nothing really for me to be worried about.

If you were to type in my first and last name and the city I am from, then yes I am pretty easy to track down since I do alot of volunteering and they usually posts things we did online. It really doesn't sit too well with me. I am very cautious who I befriend with on the web. I try not to take pictures because I don't want it to be posted online. On forums, I use different screen names all the time. Take Soompi for example, I use tlydia while on another forum I use another name. I don't give away my real name to anyone unless I trust them. There are too many weird people online. Only one person here on Soompi actually knows my real name and personal information about me.

Well I googled myself. If you put my first and last name, you cant really find anything. I guess there are quite a few people with my name AND last name. But if you put my full name, the first link goes to my campus, and it shows my student group's weekly meetings.

There is also a video of me, but hahahahaha. I'm not in there! I was actually the one who videotaped it, but my friend tagged me in it. No worries, it was a cultural dance!

Well I really dont tell people my name too. And I also dont posts pictures of me in forums.

Lucky you. I just checked. There are 39,682 people in the U.S. who share the same first name as me. There are 8,791 people in the U.S. who share the same last name as me. (I know, I have alot of time on my hands)

I guess I didn't just pick this screen name for nothing.
I tried searching by my real name and city and there's nothing that I could find.
And my name, I think, is fairly unique and uncommon especially for an asian person: a typically Jewish first name and a Spanish last name.

I just changed names... before it was very generic (mel), so it was hard to find.
Now... my username's pretty unique. Oh welll... lol it's not like I put that much personal info out there.

I goggled my name(s) and city, found nothing. Hooray! Or, maybe I didn't go a good search...eek. I've had different usernames for everything.
I love Google, but often times find it really scary. You can literally see anyone's physical address,home,jobs,etc.

Wow I use to blog a lot and luckily I shut them down and no one can find it anymore. I only use 3 SN. If you search them up you can find me easily. My name is too common to show up with anything useful. Even with my city name and other info. I like to keep my personal info to a select few also.

It's weird how if you type in my current SN in the for images on google......HERMIT's old pic shows up, lol.
