Why would u bring a US spec GTR over to Europe anyways? I don't know if Europe gets GTRs over there but different country specs can make a difference as well.
If they bought a US spec GTR over there, they should've bought a US spec 911 over there as well.
If u ask me, the Porsche guys are just sore losers.
Plus there have been different car magazines who have done tests as well on different tracks comparing the two, and the GTR beats them every time.

not to mention a time of 7:54 is just downright slow by todays standards. i'd bet they were sandbagging when they drove the gtr
also the usdm gtr and jdm gtr run different tires

Well to answer your question, majority of the speed testing around the ring are done by non professional test drivers.
Only companies like BMW and porsche can afford to keep their professional drivers in their own countries months around the same tracking in a car's testing phase.
The ZR1, the Viper Club Racer, the CTS-V, the GTR, are all driven around the ring by the factory's development and testing engineers. Believe it or not, most of your favorite cars are being tested around the ring by average joes. Once you driven around the ring for around 2000 times, you will get the hang of it better than most lol

actually the viper acr was driven by the FIA world touring car champion. i think they had a pro driver drive the gtr when it got the time, and i wouldnt be surprised if they had a pro drive the zr1 for its time too. most of the driving while the car is in development is not done buy a pro driver, but when they put the lap time down for press they usually hire a pro

Oh really, thats cool how they got the FIA champ to drive the viper, since I saw the vid and it was pretty well driven for such a wild machine.
I just saw the video of the CTS-V last night, and the sub 8 min record for a 4 door sedan record was smashed by a field engineer... as compared to the professional times by the BMW test drivers lol

i found that quote from a different article. the michelin psc are r-comps. also the turbo does not come stock with those tires, those are much better than stock tires. however the gt2 does come with those tires stock.
im sure this was a real unbiased test...

On wikipedia, it says that the time was video confirmed to be 7.29 anyway.

yah but the question is about the tires. the video doesnt do a close-up on the tires or anything so..

the question "lies" (pun intended) with the tires. The youtube vid doesn't show what tires the GTR was using. Porsche accuses Nissan of using r-compound tires instead of the stock tires that came with the GTR.
