I've tried googling this and I found nothing that worked.
Here's the deal:
I have my 80 G iPod classic synced to a specific computer's library. However, my sister has that computer temporarily in her dorm at school. I can't get to it.
However, there is other music I'd really like to transfer onto my iPod. But I do NOT want to have to sync my iPod to the library of our other home computer; I have thousands of songs on my iPod that I will LOSE if I sync it somewhere else.
I googled: drag and drop (definitely did not work), downloading third party software (they said that losing music is a possibility with this), manually managing music option (apparently involves syncing the iPod before you do that).
Honestly I figured maybe I'm doing the drag and drop wrong. I just went to the itunes library, hilighted what I wanted, and dragged it over to where my iPod music library showed up on itunes. The library is all in grey font, though, as in non-playable even though it's hooked up.
Sigh. Any suggestions or am I stuck with no new music until I get the other computer back?

Make sure those are off

Look up "Floola". Super simple to use and don't even need iTunes period. I hate iTunes and I use this exclusively. Makes iPods just like any other mp3 player in terms of transfering music to iPod.

Thank you! I'm going to check that out.
Thanks! But why do I have to have automatic sync ON?
EDIT: I tried the manual thing, it asked if I wanted to change my ipod's settings, and I hit yes, but then it started syncing, so I disconnected it really quick, so hopefully nothing corrupted. So I have to sync in order to manually manage my music? Doesn't that mean I'm going to lose everything I have on there now since this is a different computer?
Thank you! I'm going to check that out.

the automatic sync is turn on by default. you need to turn it off before you plug in your player.
after you change your settings then plug in your ipod. the Ipod have to sync with itunes so that your Ipod library will appear in your itunes and you can delete/arrange your player library.
