Ingredients
1 pound thinly sliced steak (I use ribeye because I like my meat with some fat)
5 tbsp sugar
1/2 cup soy sauce
4 minced garlic
1/4 tsp salt
5 tbsp Mirin
2 tbsp sesame oil
2 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
1 cup scallions
2 cups thinly sliced carrots
1 cup thinly sliced sweet onions
Directions
Mix all ingredients except carrots and onions. Marinate the beef in refrigerator overnight.
And cook the meat to your liking, can be on the stove in a pan or cooked using a table grill. I prefer to grill mine.
But the best place to get the best authentic bulgogi is at a small Korean restaurant on Long Point in Houston. (forgot the name) They put my bulgogi to shame

No wonder mine always came out somewhat sweet. I forgot that onions have natural sweetners in it.

Oh! My mom used to use coke with her roasts... it works well because it is so acidic and breaks down the meat, making it tender... never thought to use it on galbi. You wouldn't happen to have her recipe, would you? Does she just use it instead of the sugar?

I saw this on the foodnetwork with Bobby Flay.. He had a special guest who was Korean and here is her recipe for galbi.. She uses Sprite to marinate her meat..

She probably used it as a substitute for the traditional Asian pear sauce. Cola is a really good substitute in areas where you can't find Asian pears.
I think you'll find the Sprite would work better because of the lemon/fruit flavor.
