I have a friend who loves photography. She likes taking pictures of nearly everything. People, places, landscapes, etc. Right now she's just using a small digital camera.

I want to get her a camera, but I'm not much of an expert in the field of photography/cameras. I'm willing to spend up to $300.

So any ideas? smile.gif

Edit: What if I bumped my budget up to $500?

$300 will only get you yet another small digital camera... but if $300 was a hard limit, i think the closest thing to a DSLR would be a canon s3. i think it's discontinued now, but you might still be able to find some. the newer version is the s5. i dont remember how much that one cost, but if you want to get her something more than a point and shoot, i'd raise the $$$ limit. find a friend or a few friends to put money together with. smile.gif

With $300, you could get her a Lomography LC-A, which is I think the best camera that they have...

In my opinion, I think you should get her a film camera. You can find old film SLR (like Nikon FM or Canon AE-1) on ebay for about $100 (more expensive with lenses). I have a friend that shoots with a Nikon EM and 50mm f/1.8 and there's nothing she can't do with it. With the budget of $300, you could get her a used film SLR that is more recent, like Canon EOS ELAN 7N (or 7NE).

I suggest getting a digital SLR camera. For a nondigital SLR, you might have to develop films in order to get the photos.
Digital SLR might cost a bit more though. I bought my Canon Xti for $900. Now it's cheaper, I think it's about 500-700

If you bumped your budget up to $500, then Nikon D40 kit ftw

i rather get a SMALL digital cam than having to drag a heavy ass DSLR

but if you're really into photography, i suggest getting both. getting just a dslr alone can be a pain to take pics and wont be that much fun since its so heavy
