i'm trying so hard to write an original essay, but come on...there are basically no unoriginal essays left unless you're like extraordinary or a prodigy

But then again, it's not about having an extraordinary story. It's about approaching something in an extraordinary way. Even a story about spending the summer building houses in a third world country can sound boring and contrived if written by a bad writer. A story about taking a shower or watching TV can be a work of art...to me, that's the beauty of writing. Even something mundane can be made beautiful on paper. (BTW, do you mean there are no original essays left?)
On another note, I finished one version of my Common App essay for the "person who influenced you" prompt. People who have read it said it was unique, poignant, and poetic. But I'm thinking about writing another version that's more quirky or humorous just because the one I have is really heavy and emotional...I cried while writing the essay! Plus I actually like writing college essays - once you get into it, the experience is cathartic and deeply introspective.

One of my recent essays were about toilets. My teacher said it was, "Nauseously interesting and original."
I think it was... "the urine and human excrement which line the streets..." line which really got him!
Funny thing is, I did that essay in an hour. Did not make an outline or any sort. Though, it did require a little bit of research. It was a fun essay to write. One recent essay I loathed was where I had to describe a movie/book character. I did Spartacus, and I was stumped after describing his leadership qualities and love life. Ended up getting a B on that. I thought I would've received a D, it was incredibly boring and repetitive.
I will most likely start my college app essay this Summer. Hoping something memorable will happen. Only a Junior at the moment.
Just some advice for when you get a writer's block. Cool down, take a break! Writing when you're stressed is never a good idea.
Don't write because you have to, write because you want to.

I dedicated all of yesterday and today writing my college essay.
I also sent them out...
DON'T FOLLOW MY EXAMPLE:
I didn't let any teachers review it because they would tell me to write more in-depth, change the whole feel of
my essay and
since I am the best person who knows myself (fairly good at writing too) I don't think I made
a wrong decision. But I did read it out loud 100 times before sending them in online.

I just wrote the one I am planning to send in for the Common App last Thurs. due to a burst of inspiration. I don't know if it is a masterpiece or if it is incredible, but I truly like it. I can't seem to cut it down though... Is 700 words too much?
