Virus From Flash Drive

Ok so today i went out to buy a flash drive at walmart and i bought the Kingston one 2GB. Well when i got home i plugged it into my computer and next thing i know it have my laptop got a freakin virus. It like totally killed it i shut it off and turned it back on but it just stuck on my wallpaper and no icons and i couldnt do anything. I had to wait until my brother came home so he could reboot it for me, lost everything and made me so mad.

So i was wondering if this has happened to anyone else, getting a virus from a supposed brand new flash drive.

* I am gonna go return it and be like this piece of doody gave me a virus*

brand new? highly unlikely.

Sounds like either:
You had a dormant virus already on your computer/bad sectors/damaged system
or
The Flashdrive wasn't new..(tampered with)

My intuition points towards the former, but anything is possible I suppose.

I am the minority here.

my laptop was clean of any viruses, I run a virus check every morning and ever night. I know i am weird. And i don't think the flash drive was new, my friend works at walmart and he told me that they sometimes just reseal things up and put them back on the shelf.

I was reading around and apparently i am not the only person who this has happened to, man i just have horrible luck
