even know i don't know what to do in life and its one of those most broadest majors too

how did u guys figure your major was right for you? for the money? a strong passion for it?
how many times must I fall over and over again? and when will i finally succeed at a such a vital point in my life while my time is dwindling away???

I changed to a math major because I could graduate a year earlier if I did. But it's not like I don't like math, I really enjoy it. I actually like most of the majors at my school and wouldn't mind pursuing a degree in any of them if it weren't for the outlandish tuition price. So knocking a year out for me is a big deal.

Well I'm pre-med, and I really enjoy science (dork, I know). I spent all night debating between a neuroscience major and a biochemistry major. I love the upper-level classes for neuro, because it was all diseases of the brain, virology, endocrinology, etc. But if I don't get into medical school, neuroscience is more limiting if I want to go into field research or just a job in a lab. Plus, I've learned now that biochemistry is more my thing anyways biggrin.gif
I think if you're unsure, talking to a professor/adviser can help a lot. They know what they're talking about~~

I knew what general area I wanted to choose a major in because I had a goal in mind: I want to get into vet school, so I figured my best options would be biology (pretty broad, but at my school it allows you to steer yourself more towards animals or plants within the major), zoology, animal physiology, or I could probably do something like biochem or whatever just fine, too, except I'm not really that into chemistry. I decided to stay away from the ultra competitive, human-focused major like immunology, pharmacology, human bio, etc. Since I knew I wanted to focus more on animals and didn't want practically the broadest major possible, I narrowed it down to either zoology or animal physiology, then compared the course requirements side by side and picked animal physiology because the course choices seemed more like what I was looking for. I might have picked zoology or animal physiology even if I didn't want to be a vet, though, because I really have strong interest in the biological sciences and enjoy science, like mz.carolyn.

As for my other major, Spanish, well...I had to have two majors to get my degree here, so I picked a second major I knew I'd be good at and enjoy while not having to stress quite as much or having the classes matter as directly for my post-undergrad goals.

Choosing a major is easier if you know what you're best at, most interested in, and/or hoping to do with your degree.
Hey, look! Finally a different signature after all these years!

I don't know.
The thought of overruling Donald Trump, that's kind of a lame reason to get into Business.

It was either my seventh or eighth grade year, i told myself, i'm never going into Business. Like, you take those test to see what kind of field you best fit.

Business Management, i really don't know why. Particially is because it's a challenge. Something Challenging, something I've never seen myself do.

I knew I wanted to be an Architect since I was a child - it probably had a lot to do with family influence than anything else.

Being that my grandfather was an educator and at the same time he raised numerous schools in the rural areas of ROK, but he passed away early in my father's teens. My father also operated a construction company of his own in ROK, he says he was pretty much influenced by his father who always took him to the sites whenever he had a chance.

Same thing with myself. My father also took me to the construction sites ever since I could walk, so he says, and I remember how awestuck I was as a child to see the raising of an enormous structure right before my eyes. Even as a child, I was curious about the whole process of construction and how it comes together in the end as a place that influence everyday life of individuals -- so I always had that soft spot for architecture. I still carry many visible scars all over my body from falling and whatnot while visiting the sites as a child that reminds me of my childhood and the time I had spent with my father. There's just something about arhitecture -- it's something that's really hard to explain in words. It's more than words and senses to me as I had been exposed to construction at a very early age and I had been around it most of my life. It's like watching an airplane fly over your head as a child and you have this idea in your head filled with curiosity -- that was me with architecture. Even now, I get a butterfly in my tummy even thinking about it.

It didn't hurt to have spent last two years of my high school years with a teacher who was an architect himself -- he taught me everything about its profession and I had been influenced much the way how I approach a problem. And he was probably one of the nuttiest persons one will ever meet -- people wouldn't be able to tell his profession and he sure didn't act like a teacher nor an architect -- but, he's one of my favorite individuals on earth, he's just GD unique.

Anyway, to conclude -- basically, I lucked out being surrounded by people related to the profession early on.

To note, most of my non-Archi buddies have went on to chase money and they seem to be doing just fine as long as you're good at it, but not necessarily like it. Well, I definitely have a different opinion on that matter but who am I to tell you otherwise. smile.gif
On the eighth day, God created Seattle..

On the ninth day, God created the Seattleite..

And on the tenth day, God saw all that he had created and it was very good -- so he finally rested.

I knew I would do well in engineering because my math, physics and chemistry marks were all very good. Plus I like math and physics and have always liked the idea of improving things in our world through technology. Therefore engineering was the best choice for me. It's a lot of work but it's worth it.

I knew I was good at art and wanted to make a career out of it... so I chose a major that's within the art field~ at first i declared fashion design for a year. this was something I wanted to do since middle school, I had planned everything.
As classes started and a semester passed, the more I got into learning about fashion design, the careers, the lifestyle choices I had to make, i realized that even though i love fashion i don't think i want to make a living with it. besides I was already wanting to change to interior design, it was a difficult decision but when it comes down to how I wanted to live, what I wanted to do, ID was a better fit for me. I want to do a lot of stuff though o_O

you never know though, many college students change their major 2-3 times...

^^^^ like....
you can work for the cia, united nations, ngoS, etc.
and embassy work, etc.
my conselor was a political researcher for the cia.
she worked for them researching politic topics that she liked.
there's many jobs in any major that you like.
it gives you more oftens to work national or internationally too.
the pay various of course, but if you like the major/job,
isnt' that enough?

i know in reality loans and bills are pains,
but i, personally, feel like if i have a happy job,
i can have some sort of happiness in my mind to be able to face those loans/bills on.

did that answer your question? eek! tongue.gif

i knew i wanted to do this major when i didnt fall asleep in class too.
and when things made sense to me.
unlike math :|

take care ya'll.

I chose my major for passion. If I throw myself into something I love, I assume I'll come up with gold eventually. If you work hard and keep an open mind and positive outlook, you'll likely find the perfect major for you even while studying something else.

Food for thought - I heard this at my brother's graduation last year - there was a study conducted in which all the students of a high school graduating class were asked whether they would rather become millionaires or do what they love. Out of the 100 who did become millionaires, 99 had said they would do what they loved.

(the numbers are kind of too convenient, but the speaker was the well-respected and well-studied type, and I believe what I want to believe tongue.gif)

I chose my major due to the freedom and options it provides me.
If I get a degree in communications, I can work as a translator, lawyer, announcer, and all these other things that may lead to what I may like to do in my lifetime.
Its a little for the money but its more for self satisfaction.

well i picked english because i can write one damn good paper with little effort and it just fits well with journalism or legal crap....which both might serve me well since i mean what can you really do with an english degree?

i chose international studies as a second major because 1)i tried art and i only love it when doing it alone and not for a grade and 2)i've always had an interest in the world, travel and other cultures. obviously i have a thing for asian cultures since i'm here and thats where my asian studies minor comes into play.

plus....everything else i thought i may like requires a doctorate to even do anything worthy. no thanks.

I'm also an International Relations major. If you're into politics and traveling and making a difference, then IR is the major for you. I'd like to eventually be a diplomat in the international arena or an ambassador to the United Nations, either for Egypt or China. I'm taking EU politics right now and working for the EU would be cool as well. Geopolitics and the European Union as an institution is absolutely fascinating to study.

The bet part about being an IR or IS major is that you can tell your parents that it's NECESSARY to study abroad. I'll be in Egypt this coming fall and in China in the Spring! I'm super excited!

The faculty is of course, just as important. The entire Poli Sci/Ir department is AWESOME! I took Cultural Anthropology last year and fell in love with my professor. She made the subject really interesting and the readings she assigned were as well. I've decided to do a minor in Anthropology thanks to her!

Also important are the classes that the department has. If you look at their courses and see a lot that you'd like to take, then maybe the major's for you.
