Hi everyone. My boyfriend's mom will be staying with us for the weekend. Does anyone have any suggestions what would be ideal to cook for her. I'm usually a good cook but this will be my first time cooking for her and I'm pretty nervous sweatingbullets.gif I'm open for suggestions. She's Chinese by the way.

Definitely find out what she would like, there are so many different varieties in chinese food too. Ask if she has a sweet tooth if so, what kinda desserts would she like and such.

If you are unable to attain such information the best is to pick out your best dishes that you can make and let her be the judge of them happy.gif

good luck!

The problem is that the only person that knows what she likes is my boyfriend and we're kinda not on talking terms right now. ph34r.gif All I know is that she loves Chinese food. I'm half Chinese but don't know how to cook Chinese food. sweatingbullets.gif

I'm thinking maybe some sort of pasta dish or Vietnamese food. I don't know what my best dishes are sweatingbullets.gif so I can't rely on instincts or my judgement.

Make her Moroccan food (something she's had no prior exposure to). That way she'll have had no point of reference - no matter how the food turns out, you can say, "yep! That's just how the Moroccan's eat it." Then, if she doesn't like it, you can blame the ethnic taste. laugh.gif

No thanks to Moroccan food. I'm going to try to cook some grilled shrimp and mussels in coconut milk and sees how that turns out. If it turns out good, that's what I might be cooking for her. smile.gif Got to do a taste test first.

Haha... ^ While it was a joke, I actually am going out to a Moroccan restaurant tonight with some friends who happened to live there for a while. smile.gif

mines came out all right!! but then again... u cant use white wine... hmm... have you considered apple cider vinegar and apple juice instead? it might a bit sweet, but mixing it with the broth and a bit of salt might even it out. ionno... i'd test it out for you if i had more mussels left... =T

For my boyfriend's mom I made her different variety of sushi; but she isn't asian so..lol
but usually a safe bet for chinese food, is a lot of different types of dishes with rice, or if you don;t want rice make something with noodles, it would be delicious.
Stir fry veggies with sesame oil, and serve with rice, then make curry chicken or something.
Or if you don't want chinese food, and you were planning on making viet food, pho is always a safe bet laugh.gif
Thought I couldn't live without you
It's gonna hurt when it heals too
Even though I really loved you
I'm gonna smile 'cause I deserve to.
