I think that if you have to question whether you still want to love him or not then..it should pretty much be a clear answer for you. By what you're saying you have already made up your mind by wanting to let him go.
Seems like you're just holding on because of him. Do whats best for yourself not him.

Well part of me wants to let him go, because I do think it's best that way. But when I tried to dump him, he told me that I was selfish and inconsiderate, and I was only doing this to have it my way, but what about what he wants? And in order to let him have it his way too, I had to not let him go.

actually 5 years isn't really a huge age gap.
if the both of you have no arguments, no fights...then wad is the problem?
