I don't require a lot of alcohol to get drunk yet because I just recently started drinking on a fairly consistent basis, but it seems to me that the whole bar/club culture in this country is a massive scam for the most part, but oh well.
Whats yalls method?

buy your own alcohol and get trashed at someone's pad. buy really cheap hard liquor. low quality well vodka usually suffice. the next mornin might hurt a little.
OR.. u can just buy any alcohol and drink fast. shotgun your beers. doubleshot your liquor. do the hour of power. etc

cheapest way is definitely buy the cheapest vodka you can find.
if your new to drinking it shouldn't take you more than a couple straight shots to slap you silly for the night lol.
should last you a while.
have fun and make lots of drunk phone calls

But back in my university days, I'd get 6-7 shots of vodka... can't handle that stuff anymore... But tequila shots are good too... Patron = awesome. It lasts me the whole night.
If you're feeling brave, you can try 151 shots... hehehe

On a night out, probably pregame a bit with vodka and only drink as much as is necessary not to be completely sober through the bulk of the night.
