A friend of mine got me his second album, Mind Expander and I'm interested to learn more about him. I know he's apart of SoulCompany and he's a producer/MC? I think he produces both Korean and American artists [Like the Legendary K.O]

Anyone know about his first album [Channel? Channels?] or his background?

EDIT: And why the name Loptimist?

It is the obligation of the intelligent to oppress the stupid, otherwise they will take over the world.

Yeah, I also heard about him producing Korean and American artists.
All I really know about him is that some poeple were like 'WTF' when he went with Soul Company...Most people were expecting him to go the Big Deal Records I think.

I like their song Amnesia~

Here's a youtube link

I initially only liked the introduction to it, but after listening to it several times, I thought the song overall was okay~
That's the only song of theirs that I've heard though ><"
Blog - enjoy :D

hey- nice to see this thread smile.gif
I've heard some of Loptimist's raw instrumentals thru his myspace (http://www.myspace.com/theloptimist) and really like what i hear

The way i heard about him was really random. I used to frequent a blog called SPARKPLUGGED.net alot which focuses on j-indie and underground (or at least used to, I haven't been there in a while). Anyways they have a podcast (look into it!) and one episode was the underground hiphop scene, maybe for Asia in general. One of the tracks was produced by Loptimist but what caught my ear is that he collaborated with an underground hip hop artist i REALLY like (Braille- legit stuff)...and apparently he's done several songs w/ underground US artists. I'm curious about there connection, but no matter the details- that's tight biggrin.gif

i've had the hardest time finding anything on him, so of course the underground status is no surprise. But to answer the question about his name? This might sound kinda of dumb, but on one of his music profiles (that I thought was legit) it claimed that 'Loptimist' came from 'lee + optimist' ..ha, who knows- its not too creative but it makes sense tongue.gif

does anyone have the album? or know some place to stream it? can't find it anywhere and would <3 to give it a listen

The two Loptimist albums I have are Mind Expander and 22 Channels. 22 Channels was almost entirely members of the Legendary K-Otix crew doing vocals, I don't think Loptimist rapped over a single track. Mind Expander he was signed under Soul Company, bringing the creative production juices of The Quiett, Prima Vista, Kebee, and Loptimist together.

If you listen to Kebee's new album, about 2/3 of the songs were produced by Loptimist or Loptimist and The Quiett.

I heard he is Chinese. Is that true? That could be why... he doesn't rap.

He's Korean as far as I know... he does rap on Mind Expander, just not very much. Also on a track from The Quiett's third album, Keep Right, Loptimist raps the chorus... definitely in perfect Korean. He's Korean, lived in America for a while, got his start producing for US underground crews, then got signed in Korea with Soul Company... Not sure Soul Company has signed anyone who isn't Korean, ever. Closest is collaboration with Dok2, and he's still half Korean.

I stumble upon Loptimist while searching for Brown eyed soul. His name caught my eyes so I google it, go to his myspace, and impressed. I'm not a fan of hip hop but his instrument tracks are really good. amnesia and ghostwriter instru. are <3.

Loptimist beats always impress me. A close second is The Quiett.

Now that these two are in the same record label (Soul Company) i expect nothing but fire from them smile.gif

It would be an awesome collab if they did a proj together! But I'm thinking Q raps better over his own beats.

Loptimist is my favorite prod. <3

He's Korean...

Reasoning for the name: Lee the Optimist = Loptimist, French style contraction system, listen to the track La Repondeur (the answering machine), he speaks some fine French...

Why his English is good: He started in Texas in the US, producing for underground rappers there. Did a lot with K-Otix crew.

Dok2 is Half Korean, Quarter Spanish, Quarter Filipino... in one track, can't remember which one, he says "quarter Spanish, Filipino, half Korean history"

No way it's Loptimist speaking french. I'm from Nantes, and an accent like the one on this track would still be there even if he's speaking in an other language. It's like perfect french. And Le répondeur would be be a little more grammatical.

Recently got into Loptimists' work outside of Korea (basically in America). I've finally acquired a strong taste for Lop's productions! I love the complexity of the music, combined with how smooth the tracks are. Usually, with such complicated sounds, it would sound somewhat awkward, but Loptimist blends it in amazing fashion.

I feel every loop he produces also. They're heavenly.
Anyways, back to his American work. He's produced songs on albums with Kool G Rap and The Rugged Man. WTF, I think that's just amazing (after all, G Rap is a god and Rugged is a certified beast).
