do you think colleges wouldn't care as much about the classes you're taking for senior year? do you think it won't matter as much as your junior about how many AP classes you take and all that stuff? i'm just really worried that the level of classes i'm taking right now for my junior year would affect my chances of getting into colleges that i want to... T^T

my schedule right now for junior year:

English III AP (it's either Academics or AP)
Precal A (it's either Academics or Honors)
Physics I A (it's either Academics or Honors)
US History A (it's either Academics or AP)
Spanish IV Honors
Orchestra
Dance I

do you think it's like... a bad level of classes that i'm taking right now? would it be really hard for me to get into colleges? i'm not sure about my GPA (haven't been keeping that up yet) but i am doing well in my classes. i've been getting mid B's for my English AP class and Spanish and i've been getting low A's to high A's for my academic classes.

i used to be in Honors for Physics and Precal, but my physics teacher SUCKED (our honors class physics teachers ALL suck) so i moved down to academics since i didn't want my GPA to be going down cause of a teacher, and for Precal, math isn't my subject at all. ^o^;;; and US History, i didn't want to take an AP class unless i took Dual Credit, but since the tuition was so expensive that i decided to just to take an academic class.

schedule that i want for senior year:

English IV AP
Calculus AB
Psycology AP
Economics (i will only take an AP class for this if i can pay the dual credit tuition fee. if i can't, then academics)
Dance II
Orchestra
Health

thank you so much!!!

no offense, but compared to some kids these days, that is quite low. unless you're completely sure that you couldn't get a B or better in AP/honors classes you should at least try and then drop. but i guess it's too late now?

but your senior schedule looks great.

well the thing is... in my honors precal and physics class i kept on getting C's... and the counselor told me that it's better to get a B in academics rather than a C in honors... so which is why i dropped down cause i did not want to get the chances of getting a D or an F... O_O;;; but do you think it's really low? i mean... would it really affect my chances getting into colleges that i want to get in? O_O;;; or can i do better in my senior year??? T^T;;;

I think you ought to take as many honors/AP's as possible, because colleges like to see that you are challenging yourself. (That is why my parents have suggested that I take an ungodly number of AP classes...ack.) HOWEVER if you are POSITIVE that you cannot get at least a B/C in those classes, I would suggest that you take the lower level and aim for an A/B there. From experience, though, do not load yourself too heavily your senior year. You will be soooooo busy with college apps that you won't have as much time as you do junior year to study.

Another thing you could try...take difficult classes that have to do with what you think you want to major in. I don't think colleges would begrudge you that you didn't take Calc or whatever if your major is English, you know? Best of luck to you, my dear. (Btw...remember me??? smile.gif We were in the Samshikie thread together hehe)

Yeah, taking AP and honors shows colleges that you're challenging yourself, even if you get lowers grades, but I also understand about you not wanting to get Ds or Fs. I think you'll still be able to get into a good school regardless. Plus, you still have extra-cirriculars and SATs that they look at too. Good luck!

I guess it depends what schools you're looking to get into, but I don't think any school is going to be upset by senior year schedule. You should take as many AP classes as you can, though. I'm sure you'll be able to manage at least a B or so, and your senior grades don't really matter very much, anyway.

I don't agree that you shouldn't take anything outside of your prospective major. Schools like to see well-rounded students, or at least not students who don't take math classes because they think they've decided on an English major before they even get to college.

^ I don't think she shouldn't take anything outside of her major. But I think that if she's aiming for a major in the humanities and she's failing in AP science or whatever, it's not worth it.

well if you're doing well in all the classes, it's fine. if you're not, ask for help from friends smile.gif and good luck in ab calc next year - it's a killer x_X

well this might be a bummer but junior year is the most important year and senior year is kinda just a little part of it to see that you're not coasting until graduation. but it's ok because you should focus on doing the best you can in the classes you have now and hopefully you do well on sats and have ec's and sports. smile.gif
