has anyone had to care for a family member with a chronic or degenerative disease?
My grandma had dementia and my grandpa and family couldnt take care of her so we had to send her to a nursing home. Maybe because I'm Asian but heaps of relatives thought this it was mean and that we weren't honouring her because one of us didn't give up our jobs and take care of her full time.
I just felt that other relatives didnt really understand and kept on telling us off even though they didnt really do anything to make the situation better. it made me sad and i kind of grew distant to my cousins. they didnt really understand that my grandma would keep the whole family awake at night. I mean she couldnt really walk by herself and then she would forget that she went to the toilet 2 minutes ago and wake people up with her yelling ot go to the toilet.
has anyone had the same situation?

omg YES
i had the EXACT same situation as you about an year ago.
my great-grandmother had dementia and she was... absolutely crazy to say the least.
my grandpa and my grandma took care of her at their home and they said that at like, 4 in the morning my great-grandma would come.. crawling into their room saying that her husband (who was dead btw) came into her room saying that there were people trying to steal their money box that was under their bed (which did not exist). OH and plus she couldn't walk so she crawled around everywhere. so eventually they had to barricade her door so she wouldn't come crawling randomly out. and everytime i saw that i would be like omg how inhumane of us, but at the same time understand. and every once in a while, she would take her walking cane and just whack whack whack people with it. it was HELL. so eventually we had to put her in a nursing home. but only after my grandparents endured 3 years of this. because my aunts and uncles (none of which who lived with her or experienced any of this ) opposed sticking that sweet ol granny in a oh so cold nursing room because that would be dishonoring that lovely elderly lady. -__-x BS.
