Just curious for those girls that do competitive swimming or just recreational swimming
when you have your period how do you stop the leakage.
Do you just skip out? or do you actually go with a tampon?

I usually skip out cause I don't like tampons..
can anyone suggest an alternative to tampons so I can continue to swim at practice without feeling insecure? blush.gif

Thanks in advance for your replies!~

I hate using tampons too,
but they are the only option if you want to go swimming when you're on your period.

I have been using tampons for many years. I think they are great and very convenient to use. I guess it was scary to use to first time but, afterwards I just got use to it. I use to be in competitive swimming so I couldn't exactly skip out of practice just because I was on my period lol.

Anyway, I am pretty sure there are no alternate to tampons. They are really aren't all as bad or uncomfortable as some people may make them out to be.

I'm not really sure how but yeah... it stops bleeding whenever I have a period and I go for a swim. ph34r.gif Though my friends and I would usually joke about getting the pool color red laugh.gif but really, from my past experiences, the bleeding stops.

it was a pain in a butt to sit out and watch. sad.gif

This kind of advice would give you a really funny embarrasing story to tell during slumber parties.

It would probably work if your period isn't heavy, but I had a friend who went swimming...and when she got out of water, she had like blood all over her bottom bikini. It's not really healthy for other people to go swimming with you when you have a period--that is, if you don't use a pad or a tampon.

But yeah...use tampons, they're not that scary, trust me.

Yah tampons are the way to go! Just give it a try and see how that goes.
I have also heard that going into the water stops the bleeding because of the pressure, but when you come out of the water, the pressure is gone, don't like all the blood just comes rushing??lol

(I know, I know, I should go read the thread about putting in tampons that's floating around here somewhere tongue.gif)

Agreed.

It's chlorinated and all, but you know how they evacuate the pool when some little kid poops in it? Don't you think period blood is of about the same grossness?

Either try to use a tampon or don't swim.

If your period is light/toward the end and no longer coming out red, you could probably get away with it.

Yes, please use a tampon. :|

Get one of the ones made specifically for teens, with the thinner width or something.
