So all Mac users must know that our DVD player sucks. We can only change the region code several times until it is locked. Forever. It's really annoying since I've got DVDs from all different countries which has different region codes: Region 1, Region 3, and Region 4 (I'm currently living in Australia).
Well, my DVD player is now locked and I'm stuck with Region 3 so I can't really watch DVDs from Aussie in my laptop. Everyone has been recommending VLC player, who supposed to be region free, but apparently it isn't working too. I'm quite frustrated. dry.gif

So does anyone know a decent DVD player for Mac which is region free? Or perhaps if anyone could help me unlock the DVD player?

Help...

If I can I would've used it ever since. The problem is this DVD player sort of locked the region so I can't really watch other region 3.

VLC should work:
QUOTE
Of course, there is a much easier and cheaper way to watch multiple regions on your 'Book, although it doesn't work with every drive and on occasion has made unwanted region changes to non-region-free (RPC2) drives according to posters on rpc1.org. The solution is use VLC (Video LAN Client) instead of Apple's DVD player.

To make this work you must go into System Preferences for DVD Movie and either set VLC as the default application or set it to ignore. This will cause OS X to think of the non-Region 1 DVD as a data disk and mount it in the Finder. VLC doesn't query region code and will just play the movie, though the interface is nowhere near as nice as Apple's, and there are some stability issues.
Source (slightly old).

But you'll probably have to flash the firmware to make it region free. Knowing the name of the device would help greatly. Just Google that and "regionfree" and there should be quite a bit of results.

I think the problem is, VLC won't work on newer version of MAC. That's what people have been saying, and I just bought mine about a year ago.

And how do I flash the firmware? sad.gif

Says who? I got a brand new Mac (like 3 months old) and VLC works perfectly on it.
