this probably has probably been asked before but I haven't checked the previous threads for it so I apologize beforehand. my question is do you recommend taking a SAT prep course or prepare for the SATs by purchasing the books for self-study. i thought of taking classes but so far the one i've seen is about 1000 dollars and my family can't afford that sadly. therefore a second question would be if there is a cheaper program that'll offer prep classes? but mainly my question is which method to prepare for the SAT is much beneficial and provides better results, SAT prep classes or the books? thank you

A year back, the Chinatown Library in L.A. held free SAT prep classes that I went to. All they were saying was basically test taking strategies (and since it was free, I skipped a lot. lol, please do not).

I got Barron's How to Prepare for the SAT (2007 ed.) and they contain many practice tests and answers that explain "how". It helped a lot with today's SAT math section. I felt stupid when I read the explanations because they were so simple and I didn't get it.

It also provides a mini cooperload of SAT vocabulary cards in the back that you can rip out and study. Also v. useful!

i took a princeton class. prep classes are good if you want to practice your essay with the testing, but that's it; so basically, a waste, since some places offer free diagnostic testings. the reading&math can be done just with the book. i used the barrons and the collegeboard book. also i never used a cd for it.
I love watching KevJumba's videos. xD

i would just get a good book (barrons is nice, and def get the blue book) and study by yourself. i took a princeton class and the two things i got out of it were: being forced to practice, and taking realistic diagnostic tests.

all you really need to do is be able to sit yourself down and practice practice practice.

check out College Confidential, lots of infor there ^^

good luck !

you would get the book if you are motivated to study on your own.
if you can motivate yourself then use princeton review.
if you do not have motivation then go to a class since you have to pay for it.
if you go for a class go for a princeton review one.
you can go to the website... you can google it.. lols
I hope that helps.
