Me and my friends where having an arguement in school about Brock from pokemon. My Black friend said he was black as can be with his spikey afro and his skin tone. While another friend said hes asian cause of his eyes, saying hes probably like filipino or something . So WHAT DO YOU THINK!>

I definitely think he was either Filipino, or Japanese with a darker complexion since a lot of Japanese men aren't pale anyway. I think more Japanese though, more because of his slanty eyebrows than his eyes actually.

This would be such a viable debate if it were not for one fact: There is no distinction of nations in this damn Pokemon world. You ever heard of Japan in the world? Granted virtually everything is named in a Japanese manner, but nowhere do they actually specify that they're even speaking Japanese. The reason why it's in Japanese or English is for us, the audience, not for them. So now that we can assume that nation distinction does not work, we can also assume that the concept of black or white doesn't exist either. Race was never a factor in this show anyway; in fact, Brock's original skin tone in the original games wasn't even that brown, and even with the rereleases of the old games, he still doesn't look that brown.

However, if you guys REALLY want to get technical about it, then I personally believe that Brock is either a very small fraction of black with the rest of the mixture Asian. Of course, in case you guys didn't know, there are several island in Japan known as the Ryukyu Islands, and some of the people there have a skin tone reminiscent of Brock's. So for all we know, Brock might actually be based on Ryukyu people.
