I think most insurance companies offer the student discount if you are achieving a GPA of 3.0 or higher. You would be required to send proof (ie report card) at the time of the insurance renewal.

The bad thing is that insurance won't be cheap until you pay the big bucks first. What I mean is that if you start young and pay the insane amounts, it will become cheaper over time. When I first started driving it was approx $200-220 per month. Now its only $80ish per month for the same coverage (still one way insurance). I've had a accident (at fault, three years back) and i'm not 25 years of age yet. I'm surprised my insurance cost is at what it is now, I really thought that my accident would've caused it to sky rocket (but it had not). My insurance company is AAA North California.

student discount isn't even much..

i would go with AAA because the towing and extra services you pay for..really come in handy...

AAA is the best that I've compared too. I pay $300 for 6months to a year (not sure haha) and I got a student discount and my GPA is like 2.8 0.0
But I don't think they give discounts to college students anymore do they? 0.0

It's quite hard for me to see that you are going to get cheap insurance. You're going to end up paying more because...how old are you? I'm only paying $130 premium for a car that's been categorized a sports car...age, driving record, not being accident prone plays a factor all at the same time.

The best thing to do is get insurance quotes from several different companies and decide yourself.

just ride off on your parents insurance or start asking companies. it doesn't hurt to ask.

Im under my grandpas policy for state farm in illinois. My grandpa saved 80 bucks for the next 6 months cuz of my 'good student discount.'
Im in college btw and this discount lasts until im 25.
Im actually getting a car and I just talked to my agent and got quotes for the cars I am interested in.
She told me if I didnt have the good student discount, my insurance would be about 300 dollars more.
The car Im planning to get is the acura rsx and the premium is 750 every six months, under my name.
Therefore, insurance under your own name will cost more at first, but over time it will become cheaper due to experience, age, etc.
Also take into consideration the type of car your gonna get.
Sports cars and luxury cars will definitely be more than a 4 door. The newer the car, the more insurance is, and the type of coverage you plan on getting.

It all depends on what type of vehicle you have and if your driving record is clean. Google and and find qoutes. And just an fyi if your under 18 you can be added under your parents name and that can save you tons of $$.

16-22 is generally the peak area for auto insurance.. so might as well wait till 23.. to see any kind of dip in auto insurance. laugh.gif

like someone else mentioned the only real option you have is to ride off your parents policy as a additional driver. Calling around generally your not gonna see a big diff. Due to your age and your exp behind the wheel they all have open season on you. cool.gif

military insurance ftw!

19 yo, 04' toyota camry + 00' honda prelude = $317 => 6 months liability and uninsured motorists

w00t.gif
I won't bother since I won't read the rules and they won't accommodate.
