Well it's not official, but McCain made the congratulatory call to Obama and he made his concession speech so... haha yeah our next president is Obama smile.gif

I for one, am quite ecstatic, I've been rooting for him all the way! My dad was a Hilary supporter though. My mom is a Obama supporter like me smile.gif

What are your thoughts ohmy.gif

You can watch live, now, to wait for Obama's speech in Grant Park of his hometown, Chicago. I even saw Oprah! Hahaha

America has moved forward for the black people. Asians are still stuck where we always have been, i see nothing to be excited about.

I dont see how asians can be. What have you gained from it? What have asians as a people gained from a black president?

well, in a way, it has nothing to do with asians, but it just shows minority can win.
but obama has been educated in indonesia for a while, and he has an indonesian half sibling,
so im sure he will take good care of asians too ^^

its a dream come true.... never thought i would've seen that in my lifetime...
saying i'm happy is an euphemism.... so bring on the CHANGE!

He is a symbol for minorities .... telling you that you can also do it..
If a black man can, why can't an asian, latino or any other race do it??
Barack isn't elected to work only for black people...he was elected to lead the whole nation....
saying he won't do much for you because you are asian, is a slap in the face for what he just accomplished...

No, it doesn't. But think of it. Obama has Islamic origins, and although he isn't a Muslim, i'm pretty sure there would be some heavy bias against his NAME (HUSSEIN, his middle name, and OBAMA, which is dangerously close to OSAMA ..bin laden).

Plus, his color. It's a pretty radical change. A lot of the states that have been republic in the past have shown up as democratic this year.

Maybe you have nothing to be happy for, but it shows that this world is moving somewhere towards appreciating people of other races. And who knows, maybe in 20-50 years we will have an asian american president.

Asians wont win by kow towing the status quo and meekly supporting people like blacks who have nothing to do with us. Blacks view us asians like white people anyways. What have blacks done for asians? We blacks and asians even friends? I say as a people we arnt. They vilify us as bad as white people.

Maybe you should strive for greater asian empowerment and an asian preident rather than be strangly ecstatic about a black president. This change does not apply to asians. We are still invisible so why dont you channel that enthusasm and energy into making asians more mainstream like blacks have done? I hope your not thinking of riding on the back of black success, not that it would happen anyway. We need to do it for ourselves/ unsure.gif

I agree. I didn't only vote for Obama because he was black(even though I'm happy about that), but he promised a change and America needs one.

I'm soooooo excited that he won this election because It's something I thought would never see in my lifetime. A black man as president? No that'll never happen!!

This year's election has opened doors and you never know an Asian-American might be the next president. Now anything can happen in the US!!!!

It moves forward for blacks because they are taking up thier own cause. Asians dont we meekly stand by the sidelines, we dont even want to further empower ourselves. It is never going to happen to asians if we dont take it up ourselves, black success does not mean asian success.

To put an example, blacks banded together built a boat and now have crossed the river so that they will cross another river. We cheer for them but we still sit there and we dont band together, we run off and marry white people and then hope someone will come and build the boat for us like the white or black man.
That sort of enthusasim doesnt sit to well with me.

Are blacks even our friends as a people? I say no. They put us down in the media like radio and tv and movies just like white people.
Why we cheer for them is not something i really understand unless i think you guys are brown nosing.

LOL I wouldn't be surprise if someone actually argued that Obama is in office because of affirmative action xDD

anyways, I'm ecstatic that Obama won, but now it's time to watch the senate. Since the Republicans lost the office, they will undoubtedly make senate heck for Obama, I'm imagining one of them just taking out a Harry Potter book and saying "He-who-must-not-be-named" whenever Obama's name comes up

otherwise, it'll be an interesting four years to come
It might take more muscles to frown than to smile, but it takes none to not give a ****.

not really. i think you are generalising too much here. many asians and blacks have worked together hand in hand down here in washington, thats the reason why obama gets "the full support" from washington.

and like someone in this thread say, its about the change that we appreciate, its not all about how much benefit will ASIANS get from obama. The change about THE WHOLE AMERICA is what we appreciate. NOT only for the asians.

personally im happy since he has been giving honest speeches and things that i dont wanna mention here cuz im not up to some essay writing.

hmm. a short conclusion will be : im happy for him, not as an asian, but as someone who cares for america as a whole nation.

"Yay for the blacks, but what about us?"

If you live in America, this is about you.

It took a lot more than just the African-American vote to elect Obama. Until people like you realize that everyone needs to work together in order to achieve success, you'll always be held down by the weight of ignorance.

you are entitled to your own opinion, but i think you are heavily generalizing there and perhaps are even cynical about what seems like a trend nowadays. yes i know asians of marrying a lot of caucasians and other races, but um seriously? what does that dowith anything? there's a lot of interracial marriages, not JUST asian and so and so. there's obama's parents who were caucasian and african american.. in my opinion i think you are just being really cynical. and i would have to disagree with you. i know korea, at least music wise, is tryign their damn hardest to be known. if you think back in american history, there was a time when african american music (such as soul, rhythm and blues, reggae and blues, and etc) started to become popular. now it might not be the same with asian music, since they have some western influences, but who knows? a few popular artists have used "asian" influences in their songs. although progress doesn't seem to be that great for us asians, but there is still some progress..

I'm Asian (Korean) and Black, so I guess that just broke your claim that the two races have 'never been friends'. I get why the Asian people here are happy for Obama - not just for what he stands for, but because as a minority who has been brutally abused and mistreated for the majority of America's history, he's broken a ceiling. Him being elected for President is also history making. We're thrilled to see that some change is finally happening in our country, and it has absolutely NOTHING to do with whether an Asian can ever be president, or if we can ever get as far as black people have in general.

You on the other hand sound very bitter, angry and resentful of black people, almost like they've done YOU an injustice personally. Grow up, relax, and stop taking everyone's enthusiasm for Obama so goddamn seriously. Why are you only concerned for one race? What about the Polynesians, hell, Native Americans? Because in the end, it doesn't matter - we're all human.

Jesus Christ.

Why do you have to segregate this as a victory for strictly blacks? It's remarks like that which put such a strain on race. What have you done for Asians? Maybe, just maybe blacks will benefit from this more greatly, however he is minority and so are we. This is a change from the straight line of presidents we've had thus far. This may not be a leap for Asians but it is a step for the minority. If you're so negative on Obama's victory, what would have you said if McCain would have won? Seems like you would have been preaching the same story and if that is the case, why even post here? It's lose-lose in your opinion either way.

You make me ashamed of being Asian. You're just as bad as black people who voted Obama just because he's black, white people who voted for McCain just because he's white, and women who vote for Palin just because she's a woman.

I don't know about you, but I generally vote for a candidate who I feel can represent my interests.
I will not vote for someone just because they are Asian, or just because we share a vagina.

I guess everyone is entitled to their wrong opinion. mellow.gif
