Hi, I was wondering if anyone is in Alpha Kappa Psi, Delta Sigma Pi, or some other business frat. If so, state which one you're in. How is your experience? How intense is it?
Thanks

at SC, delta sig had the better connections and was more diverse. akpsi were just a bunch of asians studying business. decent networking potential, but at least at SC, that's a slippery slope down the asian circle.

Haha. This is funny. I got bored, decided to check out this discussion, and found this thread.

I'm in the Upsilon Psi chapter of AKPsi at UC Davis. I crossed last year and I found it to be very rewarding. Of course, you're going to have differing opinions about each fraternity, but it's all about what you put into it. They always told me, "What you put into it is what you get out of it," and I find it to be very true.

We have professional events around campus, networking events, and workshops that help develop professional skills. I adore the people I have met and the alumni network is very helpful :]

Message me if you have anymore questions!

I am a brother of Delta Sigma Pi at Binghamton University, Kappa Lambda Chapter.

I was first interested in DSP because I was majoring in Accounting + Finance but knew absolutely nothing about business. I had no clue what the Big 4 was, or what an investment bank did. I wanted to meet more people striving to achieve the same goal (having a successful business career). When I pledged, it was difficult. However, it helped me develop professionally, network, learn how to manage my time, and most important BUILD CONFIDENCE. Pledging is different in every school and every fraternity, but DSP makes sure to turn their pledges into business professionals. When I crossed, people told me that I had so much more confidence in everything that I did. Everytime I talked or gave a presentation, I was aggresive and I was able to sell my ideas and points to anybody. I knew business etiquettes and had a strong resume.

The network you build and the alumni database is crazy. Last semester, there were about 30 graduating brothers (unusually large) and about 20 of them had full time offers from the Big 4. The rest went to Goldman Sachs, Merill Lynch, Blackstone, etc. My big works at KPMG and my big big also works at KPMG. Having this 'big brother' act as a mentor to help you socially and academically really helps you grow. I had never had a real interview in my life, and last year, my big prepped me for 2 full days for PricewaterhouseCoopers. I went on their leadership conference in Chicago and received a $3k scholarship. Using these connections to get closer to recruiters and to better your chances of getting interviews and jobs aren't all that DSP is though. We focus on giving back.

We not only help brothers, but we are very active on campus. We have our own professional development series which includes resume building workshops, interviewing workshops, etiquette workshops, business/economy related panel discussions, etc. We run a professional event annually to teach students how to dress for success and we have recruiters coming up to sponsor us and table during our professional events. DSP is also involved heavily in community service and fundraising as well.

There is one thing I want to mention though. These business fraternities are FRATERNITIES. They are not CLUBS. In some campuses, DSP and AKPsi aren't very active. Many people rush business fraternities with the mindset that pledging is easy and that its strictly 100% professional. DSP is all about have fun / play hard but work harder. We get all our work done and get high gpa's and great jobs, and still have the time to go out and get trashed over the weekend.

The most important thing about a fraternity is brotherhood. Brotherhood does exist and the bond between your pledge brothers and the bond between you and your big is something so special and unexplainable in words. It's so amazing to have brothers who are always there for you and to know that you could count of them for anything.

my roommates from last year were brothers from delta sigma pi at cal poly pomona
and my big sister from zeta phi rho (who is also a sister of delta phi gamma) is currently pledging for dsp as well

cal poly is small, but dsp IS HUGE. like.. i made a joke with my roommates when i was going to help them trick their pledges by saying i was from alpha chapter alpha class but they were ilke, you'd be like 200 years old and i was like OH mini cooper. and because it's so big you gotta do SO MANY interviews and mini cooper. oh man.

my roommate also found her boyfriend through pledging? and dsp holds some pretty chill kickbacks. EVEN IF i have to clean a house for MY personal party but they decide to kick it there too, that's okay too

the process is relatively short compared to other fraternities but that's because the mission statement and reasoning is different. i think it's cool though! go for DSP! they're all hella hard working for such hard drinkers LOL
