For some odd, unknown, mysterious reason,
I can't seem to sleep earlier than like 4 or 5am... (yeah right, i've been trying to catch up with Naruto Shippuuden)

This is a horrible horrible habit that I can't seem to kill.
I would be in bed at 2am, and end up actually sleeping at like 5am anyway...
I just can't sleep early anymore.
I mean when I have days off then I sleep till like 3pm next day.....
but even though I have early morning classes at 7am, i still sleep late, or don't sleep at all.

Maybe I'm doomed to be nocturnal.

Perhaps it's actually God's subliminal message that I should be a doctor.
You know, cuz they never get any sleep.

No no... that can't be it because I hate sick people.

But I don't know. Does anyone else have this issue? I'm sure you do....
I just don't know how to kill it because I've been dealing with it since.....
well since I discovered Naruto. But I don't want to blame that because I have to watch it lol.
Damn, I don't know.
Any cures? Any hypnosis that people know that will get me out of this mess?

And because I've been pulling frequent all-nighters lately, I'm starting to get cases of narcolepsy.
I'll just fall asleep if I'm still for more than 10 minutes during the day sleep.gif so it's pretty bad.
(One of my classmates thought I died. lol)

Yeah I've been there. The only thing you can do is try to change your sleeping habits. It'll be difficult at first, especially if your body takes a long time to adjust to a new sleeping schedule. Try going to bed one hour earlier one week, and then another hour, and then another. It's worked for me when my schedule called for sleeping earlier.

However, sometimes that doesn't work out at all. Have you you ever tried staying up through the night, and then going to bed at nine or ten PM the next night? It's a bit of a torture to have to stay up for all those hours, but sometimes I do that. Stay up all day and night and then all day again and go to bed early in the evening. And from there you can try to regulate it.

But that damn Naruto forbids you to do so. Good luck.

Due to work, I end up messing up my schedule pretty bad.

It's not any mystery - you do it a few times and you mess up your biological clock. It's kind of like when you travel and you get jet lag. You force your body awake at 5am long enough, it thinks 5am is the normal time to sleep. The only way to fix it is to be disciplined and sleep at a more normal time.

From time to time, when I have to correct it, I just force myself awake on 3-4 hours of sleep. You get tired enough, then you'll fall asleep at a normal time (don't nap!). Just keep repeating until your biological clock adjusts.

If you must, use sleep aids, do exercise, drink a glass of wine, whatever it takes to get you sleeping at roughly the same time each night.

And try to avoid caffeine (coffee, energy drinks, chocolate etc) within several hours of when you want to sleep (like avoid all of it after lunch).

1) take sleeping pills but don't OD.
2) try exercising in the day which usually = good night sleep
3) watch naruto earlier then sleep.

sounds simple but its hard changing habits.

Well you should not take sleeping pills because it is easy to become dependent on them. Simply do your tasks earlier, if you want to catch up on Naruto, wait for a weekend or make space during your weekday schedule in between classes/studying/whatever it is that you do. If shifting your sleeping schedule one hour earlier each day is too hard, do 30minutes.

Also if you find yourself in your bed and unable to sleep for 30 minutes, get up and try to study/read a textbook. Any attempts at studying usually make you fall asleep (atleast for me). And if it doesn't work that efficiently, atleast you got some study time out of it. I wouldn't recommend exercise because then you get your blood pumping faster and your heart beating faster which is the opposite of the state you should be in when you sleep.

Anyway for me, 4 hours of sleep is enough so even when I sleep at 4a.m. I can wake up for 8a.m. but I'll have to compensate by taking a nap sometime later in the day.

It sounds like you have severe insomnia, something which I've been dealing with alot of my life.

Do tons of research on the internet about insomnia. Good, regular, deep sleep is one of the pillars of good health. Not getting it is very bad for one's health.

Good luck.
Just some thoughts: I hope Asians can become more assertive and not passive. I hope Asians develop more social and interpersonal skills. Asians need to develop height through good habits and nutrition. Be careful of the stock market. Don't think it's easy money. It's deceptive and can be more dangerous than the casino. I've lost hundreds of times more in the stock market than the casino.

Maybe try reading one of your old textbooks from university until you fall asleep.
That always does the trick =P

Or used to..
I was never a big reader..
Until now, when I can finish a whole novel in one or two sittings (also sleeping around 4-5am)...
It's pretty bad.. >_<

Or throw away Naruto XD

Sounds like your body clock is outta walk for staying up too late for too many days. I suffered something similar and simply stayed up for almost 2 days without sleep and finally succumbed to slumber at 9pm the next day.

So if you can't sleep one night till 5 am the next day, don't sleep at 5 am, stay awake for the rest of that day until 9 pm-ish that night and snooze.

Use 1 pillow. I find that you get better rest and sleep easier with 1 pillow than 2 or 3 under your head.

your body clock is just out of sync. probably will be hard to change immediately so do it gradually.

so maybe sleep at 4am instead of 5am, then next night 3am instead of 4am etc.. just slowly cut down your time that you usually sleep and your body clock should readjust according.

btw naruto, in particular shippuuden is great. i remember when i did a naruto marathon for several days too smile.gif

small progressions never work for me. NEVER. I'm doomed.

Yeah Shippuuden is a lot more interesting to me. I'm pretty crazy though.
You know that show, LOST? Yeah well when I was late on that bandwagon,
I watched Seasons 1 and 2 in ONE day. Yeah both seasons, in one day. Or maybe it was two...

See I don't remember because I didn't sleep lol.

Same with Heroes.... and Bleach. Thank god I'm not that interested in Bleach anymore. Or I'd be dead.

lol the title of this thread is cute
anyway, i suggest you stop watching naruto or watch naruto at a different time.
find sometimes to relax your head...

i have been studying a lot and even when i don't have time i still find a little bit of time once in a while during weekends to watch dramas...when i'm watching series my head works more because i was working a lot to study, now i have to watch stuffs and drain more energy. and then i tried to sleep, but i woke up after 5-6 hours of sleep! i want to sleep more but i can't...i get drained in the afternoon...so i started to change all of that by trying to watch less when i don't have the time

i think you just have to tell your body when to stop.

good luck..hope you come back with some good results..and one of the solution should not be sleeping pill...it's not good for you.

try exercise a lot too, it might help you...

I don't sleep till 6 AM and I'm fine with it. I work 14 hours days and play tennis when I get off work.

The only time you should be worried is if you wake up tired. If you notice yourself falling asleep constantly then your not sleeping enough or over sleeping. Your bodies internal clock constantly tries to adapt with you.

Doesn't matter what time you sleep as long as your fully energized when you wake up =)

Listen to your body. It will tell you when it needs to rest and when it's time to go out and stretch.

When my body clock goes out of whack .... i don't sleep for a night to reset it :x
if i start making a habit of sleeping at 3am or 4am. i just don't sleep.... Keep myself awake until the next night and flop into bed at 10pm or 11pm. I usually wake up early the next day so i get tired by the same time and then.... yeah you get the point

I love being up all night. It's quiet, there's no one around... it's so nice. I usually sleep 4am-9am... then have a nap around 6pm-8pm. That way I get the "day stuff" I need done, and have a peaceful quiet night to do whatever I want! ... I know, I'm weird
