Hi all,

So I'm a sophomore at Loyola Chicago. I've been slacking reeeal hard up till now, so I've been put on probation AND lost all my financial aid (dumb, I know). My freshman year I received a lot of aid and scholarships and only had to pay about 5/6 grand a semester. But, at the start of this year (sophomore year), all my scholarships and aid were taken away, so now I owe about 16 grand a semester.
The problem is my parents obviously can't afford to just shell out more than 30 grand a year and I need to apply for aid.
The BIGGER problem is that when I contacted my school's financial aid office, they told me that any kind of (student) loan I apply for woudl have to go through my school's financial aid office and because I'm on probation and havent brought up my grades, they pulled my aid/scholarships and also will not work with any other student loan organization. Most of the student loans I've looked at require verification from the school's financial aid office. My question is are there any where I can just send in proof that I do attend school? I've heard there are there some forms of loan where you can just print out your school schedule as proof and they will dispense you the money.
BUT another problem is that i've recently dropped down to half time, which I think affects me to a certain degree.
I guess my main underlying question is, are there any STUDENT (not personal loans... the interest rates on personal loans are much higher than students loans) loans that are available for half time college students and do not require verification directly from the student's school's financial aid office?
I need to take care of this problem within the next week or two, to leave time for an application, and since I'd rather not involve my parents in there, I'm asking for help from outside sources.
I really hope any of you guys can help me out, you have NO idea how grateful I would be. Thanks a lot everyone smile.gif

wow I dont wanna seem negative here but you're kinda asking much for someone who not only have bad grades but also has cut their schedule in half. I mean, if you're so motivated to go school and pay for it, why can't you be so motivated at the first place and study for good grades?

I know it's not useful at all to you and I apologize but financial aid, they usually lend money to those who they think will reimburse them. If you've got bad grades they probably assume you won't.

Have you try loans from the bank?

good luck

from what i know, student loans only apply to those who are FULL time students.

I'm sorry I'm not much help.
Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and living alone won't either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. You have to love. You have
to feel. It is the reason you are here on earth. You are here to risk your heart. You are here to be swallowed up. And when it happens that you are broken, or
betrayed, or left behind, or hurt, or death brushes near, let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the apples falling all around you in heaps, wasting their
sweetness. Tell yourself that you tasted as many as you could." -- Louise Erdrich

I believe you do not get help from financial aid if you're a half time student. Since you're on probation that means you must have done really bad your freshmen year because you have to get less than a 2.0 GPA to have it taken away.

In any case, I think you should try going to the bank and asking for loans. There isn't much you can do because it's too late to fill out for scholarships. mellow.gif

I thought aid depended on the financial situation your family was in and not the grades. Like if you meet a certain income then the school will help you out.

But not too sure what happens when you lose the aid and try to get it back.

I agree with person above. You probably have to settle for personal loans since student loans need to go through the aid office to be processed. Good luck getting the loan though.

FAFSA is based on income, not grades.
