Has anyone ever put food in the oven and instead of baking or broiling it, hit the CLEAN button instead?

This just happened to my grandma and we realized it when we started smelling something nasty coming from the oven.
Little did we know, my silly little grandma mixed up the Bake and the Clean buttons and ended up Cleaning the food for about 10 minutes. laugh.gif

I read online that self cleaning ovens burn off whatever residue is in the oven by heating it up to 900 degrees F and that some fumes may occur.

So it's definitely NOT safe to eat the food, right?
She still wants to feed it to us and I'm trying really hard to convince her otherwise... unsure.gif

Ps. Yes, I know this sounds ridiculous, haha sweatingbullets.gif

LOL yea self-clean just puts the oven at a super high temp to burn off the grease and stuff stuck in the oven.

If she really insists on still eating it, I would just cut away any burnt parts and make sure the insides are cooked all the way through? lol

It's cute because she's silly. Unless it was done with malicious intent (which I doubt) it's cute

DON"T EAT IT!!!
It's basically eating the grease and grime from the oven. And anything that smells funny, you shouldn't eat it.

HAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHA
I love it! That's something I would do too.
Your grandma is so cute. Don't be upset with her. sweatingbullets.gif It's an honest mistake.
At least you know that your baked good is definitely sanitary and clean~!!!
There's so many buttons on the appliances these days. I did that with the coffee machine.
I was made fun of but oh well >_< eeek.

Yea and show us some pictures!!!

My grandma is extremely stubborn and frugal in a foody kind of way so there was no way in talking her out of eating it.
I did however take your advice on checking burnt parts and making sure that it was cooked all the way.

Surprisingly nothing looked or smelled funny. I guess the weird smell was just the oven.

Oh yeah, it was roast beef and vegetables btw.
The roast beef was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay overcooked so no one ended up eating that (thank goodness)
And the vegetables were actually good blink.gif

One day has passed and I'm glad to say that I am still alive.

So if this ever happens to anyone (which I hope it doesn't, haha) your food will be OK as long as you haven't "cleaned" it for too long. rolleyes.gif

Ps. Sorry guys, I know you all wanted to see pictures, but the food didn't look bad at all. It looked pretty normal on the outside, haha.
Sorry to disappoint you, hahaha laugh.gif

Yeah I agree, I wouldn't eat it. I mean it's a clean button to get off grease, did you eat it yet? o__o
I don't have a clean button either 0.0 or maybe I do, just never seen it cause I don't use the oven at all <__<;;
I'm scared of ovens T__T;; anyways... maybe you just have a very expensive oven o_o

I think it's safe to eat. It was sorta cooked in SUPER HIGH temp. The higher the temp is, the more germs it kills off the oven and food.

But dude, you're gma is cute lol
