Okay, I am in a severe.. severe dilemma.

I have never gotten a c in my life, and what do you know?

I have a c in math right now.. and its my junior year.

Yes, ppl say that i have a chance to raise my grade up.. until the semester ends..

however,

PERHAPS..

I were to have a C in first semester Pre-Cal H, but in 2nd sem I could raise it up to an A.

Are my hopes to get into a UC (even uci, since i live in irvine) gone??

help me please.. i'm desperate

lol... you still have hope dont worry. i got a C in pre calc too, except it was second semester. what sucks more is that i had an A first semester. if your GPA is high, you have a good sat score (probably 1800+ for UCI), then you can still go to a UC. worst comes to worst, UCR will still take you, i'm assuming you have B's and A's in your other classes if this is your first C.

i wouldn't worry unless you have a D or F.

A C is really not the end of the world. As long as you keep your grades up in other subjects and next semester, you will definately have a change at UCI. Don't be discouraged because your SAT score and EC and essay are also important parts of your application.

Yes, I have maintained solid As and Bs in H.S Never a D or an F... better study for SATS I guess. Thank you so much

I'd be happy to get in to uci...now, honestly, i've been worrying about my grade in pre-cal. Since it is my junior year. Thank you for you encouragement.

try to get an A second semester.. and maybe redeem yourself by taking calculus during the summer at a college. I got B's on both semesters of Honors Precalculus.. my grade kept fluctuating. first quarter got a super low B and second quarter for a mid range A but bombed the final but there was no way to get an A unless I were to receive 100% on my final. Third quarter I received an A but fourth quarter my grade slipped. Eventually got a B.... I wanted to get over math and absolutely hated honors precalculus so decided to take calculus during the summer at UCLA in lieu of AP Calculus BC.. I redeemed myself by getting an A in an actual college math class. Now a B isn't the end of the world. I still had a high GPA & the college class boosted it even more and eventually qualified for ELC. Now I have guaranteed admission @ UC Irvine & UC Davis (they sent me letters), and will probably have better chances at UCSD, UCLA or UCB.

Even if you end up getting a C this semester, you have many options. You can work your ass off and get an A second semester... That will show improvement. And work hard during your senior year. I gather you'll be taking AP Calculus BC next year... You can take calculus at a college during the summer if you think you can handle it. You can take the SAT Subject Math Level 2 and do amazing in it. You can do well in the SAT Reasoning as well. If you always had A's for your math classes and end up getting an A this second semester, have great SAT math scores, colleges might find that the C is an outlier. And of course you still have your EC's and personal statements in your UC application! So don't worry too much about it!!!

Good luck!

Its fine to have a C in pre-calc honors, I know a girl who had a C in pre-calc honors with couple A's and B's and where is she now? BERKELEY. so trust me you`ll be fine

To be safe, try out for local competitions to get awards to put on college apps. Try to get mentioned in local newspapers. Get a good Sat/SatII's scores. Boost the EC's and try to take more leadership skills.

It is indeed the end of the world.
You should just pack up right now and live life pushing pills and prostituting your body to people who actually go to college.

You've already gotten your semester grades? We're not even through 2nd quarter yet.

You should be fine. Do well next semester, and that will justify it. It won't bring your GPA down that much.

Ohh don't worry about it. Just try your best for the next grading period (how do you get your semester grades so quickly? o_O). I know many people who've gotten into UCs and have had C's before.. just bring it up and they'll see the improvement!

yes, your life is ruined. I heard minimum wage in san francisco is around 10 bucks now.

but seriously, dont worry about it. Adcoms would just see it as a fluke, so long as you dont get anymore of them. smile.gif

Don't worry about it too much!
I know people who have gotten Cs but they end up in great UC schools.
Just work hard and improve.

Keep your GPA above 3.0 and don't slack off. That's about all I can say. UCI has a relatively high acceptance rate, but you shouldn't push your luck.
