anybody know how to install it?
they are called boblights - kind of like disco lights but on your desktop/screen -
Boblightd is a daemon that controls lights based on input from clients over udp, it supports two rs232 based protocols, it can output a pwm signal with a soundcard (using alsa) and it can open a program with popen() for easy implementation of custom protocols.
Clients connect to boblightd over udp, then request lights configuration, send their own configuration etc. Each client can set their own parameters for each light, whether it wants to use it etc. Also every client sends a priority, boblightd chooses which client controls each light based on priority, whether the client wants to control the light and how long the client has been connected.
The priority can be anything from 0 to 255, where 0 is the highest priority and 255 is the lowest priority.
Its default configuration file is /etc/boblight.conf (or boblight.conf in the current directory for windows), you can select a different configuration file with the -c flag. to read more go here
the instructions and download is here
can somebody help me? I'm using windows vista and i want to try this lighting thing out
and so when i open up boblight get pixel it says connection timed out. & I'm actually a computer noob so i dont really know how to configure things TT_TT please help me.

I didn't read your documentation, but I see you use serial (RS232) so make sure you're using the right ports.
Start > run > devmgmt.msc
Ports (Com & LPT)
and I think you can see your com port numbers if you double click the serial.

Look for Ports (com & lpt) when you click the + there should be a bunch of different ports... I guess alternatively you can just try the ports down the line, from com1-10 it rarely goes higher unless you have a USB-> Serial adapter in which case it should be easy to spot and find the port of.
I would screen shot it for you, but I don't have any serial ports on my computer so I can't show you anything x_x
Edit: actually, you say vista and vista probably names it differently. I only have USB on my laptop so I can't really tell you what its supposed to say... so try different com ports in the settings of your program instead.

Are you sure you have the right idea? The lights aren't on your desktop. You need external hardware with LED to create the lights.
