I really find it amusing, not so much annoying, that all these 20-23 year old's dress and act all serious and self-important, as if they are better than those who don't act that way.

Why does standing a certain way or having an uppity attitude to others your age who still wear casual clothing and or act casual, why is that considered 'cool".
These people are the exact same people who were just a few months ago the same casual, non self-righteous prick that they are now, why do they think that all of a sudden because they gave themselves an image change wardrobe/attitude wise that they are somehow "above" their actual age group and its customs and norms all of a sudden, I just find it almost comically amusing to an extent.

I just hope I never get this way, I mean I don't feel the need to change what I wear and how I act towards everything and everybody all in order to "grow up", how childish in every sense of the word.

I think I just experience this more because I live in a mostly conservative part of the country, yet I'm fairly liberal in my views and a generally casual person, and I think most conservatives are under the impression that you have to act like a "big tough, all serious manly man who can take care of business attitude" which I just find amusing, because these people look so silly, yet god forbid you tell them that.

im 24 and i still dress like im a poor college student. but ive noticed, whenever i walk into a store or restaurant dressed like a bum, im usually ignored or get bad service. people look down on you cause they think you have no money. but whenever i go to these places before/after work dressed up, i notice how people pay attention more and treat you with respect.

i dont mind others doing it. its up to them however they want to dress. its the easiest way to show status, i understand. its not like i cant do it. i just choose not to. i dont want people to treat me differently because im a doctor or make tons of money. if people want to treat me like im 16, thats fine. but, however they treat me will determine if i ever return to their business, buy their products, or how much tip to leave them.

I don't think we should generalize that everyone that dresses nice is pompous and arrogant. See this article: http://www.soompi.com/forums/index.php?sho...t=0&start=0

Pompous and arrogant people, that "act all serious and self-important, as if they are better than those who don't act that way," can be anyone, regardless of the way they dress. A person who dresses casually can equally feel that those that dress nice in suits and dress shirts are bumbling idiots and considers anyone who doesn't dress casual to be a retard. This in turn would designate the person who dresses casually as someone who feels they are self-important and that they are somehow better than those who dress nice and don't act the way they do.

In short, generalizations are bad. Hate the person, not their look or their age. I don't like people that "act all serious and self-important, as if they are better than those who don't act that way" regardless of the way they dress, who their mother was, who they are. Hating on looks is as illogical as hating based on race otherwise known as racism. Hating on people because of their age doesn't make sense either. Saying: I hate 8 year olds because they all are bad children that destroy things makes no sense. What about the 8 year olds that don't destroy things? Saying I hate it when someone destroys things therefore, I don't really like the majority of 8 year olds because they generally destroy things, makes sense.

Ordering and association is important.

I have a couple attires that are really snappy and fancy, but I generally like fun and comfortable stuff. I found a Super Mario Sunshine shirt (Mario in the bee costume) at the thrift store the other day!

I'm forever a jeans and t-shirt kind of guy. I find noting else more comfortable. But, it is required that I dress business casual and professionally for work. Dress shirt, dress pants, I will dread the day I have to start wearing a tie.
There's no rejection or failure, only feedback and outcome.

I also dislike it when people dress beyond than smart business casual in a non-business setting. Some of my friends do this, but their personality is still very friendly, so I don't mind. However, if they were condescending, I'd be annoyed. In the end, it's really their personality and not their dress that catches my attention.

What are people in their 30s supposed to act like?

I know plenty and some are office peeps, family orientated but smoke weed and still have a great night out.

I dress too old, I don't think I'm better than anyone else - it's just I spend most of my time at the office or running around after I've left the office so I don't have time to change. Personally - I'd rather dress older than younger.

I have a sister that's 40 and dresses like she's 18. I'm 26 and dress like I'm in my mid 30's. I think it keeps me professional, I work in a professional environment.

I noticed that too! I look really young on top of that so whenever I go out to eat they give me bad service. I really don't get it. The funny thing is ... i'm a really good tipper and whenever they act that way towards me I just don't want to tip them at all. Seriously. Whenever I did service work I didn't give someone bad service because of the way they dress.

In any case, I don't care what people wear as long as you're not 50 years old wearing 20 year old clothes or like a 12 year old wearing 25 year old clothes. I do think that the way you carry yourself has A LOT to do with the type of person you are though. If you dress like a gangster i'm going to assume you're a gangster. If you don't want people to "generalize" you that way then don't dress like a damn gangster.

Actually sorry to say this, but if you want to "grow up" you kinda have to change your attitude. Its called life. I know its unfair. Personally I rather have young people start acting mature than irresponsible and disrespectful. You know what really pisses me off? When there are middle aged people who have certain responsibilities but they don't give a john teshing mini cooper about their children. Seriously they need to GROW UP! But then we also have 14 yr old kids who act very childish and beat up random homeless people. Seriously they need to GROW UP!

I'd take the self-righteous early 20s who act like they are 30 any day than an irresponsibile middle aged person. At least I know they aren't beating up random people. At least I know they are raising their children.

I hate to tell you this HERMIT, but I have to tell you anyway. You would of found out sooner or later so I figure I'd save you some grief later. You should stop dressing like you're in a strip club b/c it's really not appealing in any form of ways. Don't get me wrong, you're good looking, but not in that kind of environment. I think that's why you're getting hit. Sorry to disappoint you.

I hate to tell you this, PaNgIeE, but I think the guy you've been stalking is not even me.
I'm not the good looking guy that dresses for the strip club, I'm the disheveled-looking, short and stocky guy that dresses in sweats to go the buffet.

I didn't say for the strip club. I said "like the strip club." It doesn't matter b/c like superman I know that the short and stocky guy is just your cover up. LOL! Can I join you at the buffet? smile.gif
