I put the item onto craigslist for my friend. This lady emailed me asking for the item. I told her that my friend was willing to sell it, but then my friend decided to not sell the item. I emailed the lady back stating that the item was no longer for sale numerous times. However, she refused to acknowledge those emails. I got really sick of her emails, so I canceled my account on yahoo. Today, I received her check, with no return address. My quesiton is, can I get into legal trouble and what should I do?
Its a money order from somewhere international. I have no intentions of cashing it. As long as I don't cash it, I can't get in trouble?
THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT I CANCELED MY OLD EMAIL ACCOUNT, SO I DONT HAVE ANY PROOF.

If it's a Yahoo account you closed, you should have 30 days to reopen it or something, if I remember correctly.
Otherwise sorry I have no idea how craigslist works >_> If it's the same as ebay, you (or your friend, really) could get in trouble, but I'm not sure about Craigslist...
Don't you *have* to put a return address on a money order??

This is why you shouldn't sell things for your friend. I don't understand why your friend couldn't sell his own his own item... since Craigslist is free and anonymous anyway.
Anyway, don't you have to have a return address? After all, if you got the money shouldn't she have given you an address to mail the stuff to?
Unlike a check, a money order is already paid for. I'm not sure if cashing it matters or not. To be safe, you should really return that money order to her. There's very little chance you'll get in trouble, honestly, but why risk it at all?

Maybe the money order is fake and all of this is a scam. I' m not even sure why the money order is international? I wouldn't really trust sending my stuff overseas using Craigslist.
Anyways, if you can't reopen your account, maybe you can post some kind of message on Craigslist to that lady, and hope that she sees it and contacts you.

a check with no return address?!
Come on, if that person seriously wanted to buy, that person would have provided a clear information of where to send the item.
Plus it's from abroad.
It's clearly a scam !!
If you cash it, that person can track / have access to your bank account.

So is it a check or a money order....?
If it's a money order. Reopen account or try to get in contact with her.
Next time always get a contact number.
AND I dont understand why she didnt attach her adress on, as you have to send her something... Didnt she write you a letter or anything...?
If it's a check dont cash it.
