To make a long story short, I'm a history major at UCI and this is my last year. I transferred from a community college a year ago and I've kinda been coasting through UCI. I'm scared because I don't know what to do after I graduate. I mean I don't know what to do with a history degree and I don't want to just get a 9-5 job because it'd be a waste of my college education. I want to go on to grad school (which one I'm not sure either) but my problem is my GPA is only 2.8 (I've been coasting through which is a major mistake =[ ). I'm really at an uncertain point in my life right now and I feel like I'm letting my parents down as well as myself if I don't get anything out of college. It's kind of depressing for me right now because I know I shouldn't have taken my classes for granted. Do you guys have any suggestions on where I should go from here and what I should do? Thanks in advance, guys.

If I were you I would get into business. What business? anything that makes money. Go sell sprockets or whatever and starting building.
If you don't want to, you might think about emigrating to france...at least they have good social services

Hey look! We have something in common!
I am a history major who just transferred from a community college to UCI; thus, i am a third year.
Anyway, for me I am planning to go to a Library Science Graduate School because I want to be a librarian. I have another friend who is a 4th year history major who is going to become a lawyer, I believe or something to do with law.
My advice, try to do research because that was what I did or try to talk with your counselors or something.

Go talk to an advisor ASAP.
Look into different grad school programs.
Statistics show that most people don't even have careers relating to their undergrad degres anyway, so it's not as though you won't find a good job in the future that doesn't have to do with history.
Look into internships and work. Even if you do not have the highest GPA, having a good resume will help you. Try to develop your networking skills, start going to office hours... build a relationship with your professors! They can write recs for your grad school applications...

Well, I'm a business econ major at UCI and I'm only a freshman... but maybe go to the Career Center and see if you can get an internship~
I'm sure it will help your resume when you get out into the real world to have some experience

Did you figure out what to do yet? I'm in my 4th month out of 6...yup, I took 6 months off of school to work full time and figure out what I might want to study. So it'll take me forever to graduate, and my gpa is only a 2.9, but it's never too late for a fresh start. What do you want to get out of your time at college? That's what's important, not what someone else wants you to get out of it. And do it at your own pace...ultimately, you are the one who has to live with your decisions [ :
