I say guys only because I just assume no girl would actually go to a bar/club alone, but I suspect there are some that do, maybe.

Anyways have any of you guys ever gone to a bar/club, mostly a bar tho, alone? Like no friends, no people you might know there, absolutely alone. I sometimes go to bars with a couple of friends, but there are times when I don't have anybody to go with and or my friends cant/don't want to go that night, yet I do. But I have never ever gone alone, You think I should? Could there be advantages to being alone that I haven't realized?

I've never gone to a bar/club alone. I just wouldn't feel comfortable but that's just me. If you think you'd be comfortable going alone then why not?

Depends on what kind of bar you're talking about, I suppose. I've gone to sports bars and bar & grill type establishments alone and haven't had any problems. Nothing wrong with saddling up to a bar to have a drink, watch your favorite team play, and/or just to have something off the menu to eat. You might make an acquaintance or two, you never know. I guess it all just boils down to what kind of expectations you have on your visit to the place. I personally sometimes find it better to go to a bar to unwind alone rather than being subject to the agendas and timetables of others you happen to be with.

i agree with hermit, i can easily go to a bar to watch a game by myself because there would be some people like me who like to watch that game so we can find a common language and have a good discussion.

Other then sports bar, it kind of boring to go by myself.

I've never gone to a bar alone, it would be far too uncomfortable knowing that I have no immediate friends to speak with.

That's like going to the movies alone.

I have never gone alone, but I think I'd almost prefer to... I don't know, I guess it sounds weird, but I like having a beer and watching basketball somewhere different with some food... and when I go with friends, I watch basketball and they think I hate them.

And as far as the movies go, I really just go to watch the movie... I've gone alone, and will go alone again. It doesn't bother me because I realized I was just getting together with friends, going in, watching the movie (no one speaks) then separating. So it was kinda pointless, unless we stuck around to talk about the movie afterward.

Yea I have never understood the mob mentality that you "shouldn't go to a movie alone", just as you said, when ppl go together to a movie they almost never talk, and just leave afterward...so these people who say its weird to go to a movie alone don't even make sense really...

A bar is different I guess, but I don't think it would be that bad going alone, alot of times when at a bar with friends or a club it dawned on me that hmmm... if a person of the opposite sex was interested in me, it would probably be easier for them to talk to me if I was alone rather than with my drunk friend over here...

Dunno about y'all but theres more to just watching a movie for the sake of watching it. Myself and others understand that we watch a movie together because we are all genuinely interested in that movie, even though we do not go into deep conversations during the movie other than comments like 'whoa!', 'cool!', 'holy crap!', 'wtf!'. We tend to blow up with conversations after the movie to discuss it and usually spend the rest of the day together.

I think a new issue is going your separate ways straight after the movie has concluded, rather than spending more time with one another. Isn't the point of meeting up with friends is to socialise with them?

Co-sign w/ what Hermit said...

The only other exception is if I'm in some foreign place on vacation or business trip. I wouldn't mind grabbing alone. Getting plastered by myself is a whole different story though...

Agreed! Except I don't go to bars -- I meant for general stuff like movies and things. I told a guy friend that and he was worried for me because he says I need to socialize more ._.

I do. Sometimes when I want to unwind and get away from my troubles, I go clubbing by myself. No boyfriend, no friends. Just me by myself as a stress reliever. I really don't see anything wrong with it. The advantages of being alone when going to the bar, in my case, clubs, is that there aren't people there to bother you. You're in your own zone, I guess. You're free to relax more smile.gif

I do. Usually, I sit by myself in a corner smoking, spitting, and looking generally grim. And when someone I don't like walks into the bar I'll snarl something like "WE don't take kindly to YOUR kind 'round here!"

^ lol

if it helps, my cousin (guy) doesn't mind going to bars alone especially if it's to get over a bad day with a couple of drinks, but he says he would never go clubbing alone.. it's more of a social event - something he'd go to if his friends invited him, but otherwise not somewhere he'd normally just randomly go to

I've done it all the time while travelling but now that you mention it I don't think I've ever done it around where I grew up except a university pub.

Have yall ever been hit on alone at bars/clubs? I figure it must be sorta intimidating for girls as well as aguys when they are in a group, I would think it's easier when they are alone.

Oh yeah, all the time!
I get particularly hit on hard by bouncers that don't take too kindly to my fake Hawaiian McLovin ID.
