I approximate obviously, there's no way to count exactly and precisely
unless you write/calculate it.

I have a really good ballpark counting system. It's hard to describe - I just add up the main numbers, and the little ones I aproximate and I rarely end up within more than a 50 cal distance of the actual mathematical sum. It's fast and requires 0.005% of my brain processing power.
I also do this when I go grocery shopping with a limited number of money

I can get quite obsessive & that isn't good >_>
I often look at the nutritional information and think 'nah can't be that little." & DOUBLE it 'just to be safe;' but even then i'm paranoid that I'm underestimating it.. gah

I'll be able to know exactly why I'm gaining weight T_T
Oh yeah and you shouldn't count them so precisely. I also make sure I always round UPWARDS to the nearest 50. You can't trust the information on the labels 100%, which would tend to err on the small side.

i used to be anorexic or i would limit myself to like 500 calories in a day (which some people consider anorexic- which i guess in a way its like it) but anyways i would count calories for everything. even fruit- i would go online and see how much calories an apple was. it was pathetic. but im over that now. (:
but im not anywhere as bad as i used to be. i still look at the labels, but i will only count calories if its high in them, because i dont want to eat too much of a bad thing. now im just into eating healthy.

I'm not even sure how much calories my mom make me in a meal.
I do read labels of labeled items though. LOL

Even it pains

I don't think it is as much of a bad thing anymore because I've realized that counting calories is not the end all, be all of eating to be healthy and loose weight but a part. Ignoring calories all together could be disastrous for your weight as calories are what cause you to loose weight but it shouldn't be the factor that you base all your food decisions on. I look at calories before I buy anything at the store to make sure that it is within my range and then just eat a balanced diet to stay satisfied, confident that I'm not eating unhealthily because I didn't buy anything that had too many calories to begin with. I eat a lot more fruit now even though it doesn't have calories printed on it because even though I can't add it my count, I could guess and know that its within my "range".
My conclusion? That calorie counting to a certain extend it necessary to loose some weight and stay healthy, but don't aim at a number, aim at a range and remember that the reason why you're trying to loose weight or keep it off is to be HEALTHY so base your food decisions on that complete package, not just the calorie count.

Many people who are conscious of their weight and appearance all have habits of counting calories. Movie stars, Singers, Dancers, all watch what they eat and i assure you they count calories too. But I recommend you to treat yourself to foods you enjoy eating too. Just try not to binge on them and you'll be fine.

yes. i used to calculate each night every single calorie i consumed and mark them down day by day. but then my weight lost (110 - 95lbs) perked my mum's attention and she started watching my eating habits like a hawk i had to stop but then i am still conscious of my calorie intake, and it has increased lately because i want to start losing weight again. back then i had a set goal then started lowering the number of calories as each set of weeks went by
