For UPenn, one of the short answers is choose a prof you would like to study or research with. I'm mainly asking anyone who goes to UPenn, who would you recommend and maybe a why? O yeah I'm applying to the the arts and sciences college.
Please help me out =) soon, only 2 more days

You probably did this but, go to the website, go to college of arts and science, go to the department where you're most likely to major (economics, poli sci, biology, spanish, etc), and they should have a list of professors and what they teach. then if you click on the professor, i'm sure it has a mini bio, and you can say you read one of their books (...lol) or something.
good luck

haha, this question was a bit annoying. But yes, go to the website of whatever department you're interested in, and look at their faculty pages. Find someone who is doing research or teaching a class that interests you, and explain that. I know the science faculty pages all list what their primary research interests are.. I'm not sure about humanities.

Well, I applied online and they only let you have 300 characters, so it was only about 3 sentences to write anyway..

I highly suggest that you avoid that. That is one of the biggest mistakes that many applicants make: go onto the school's website and say how you want to work with a certain professor because of (such and such).. and that work was posted on the internet. You want to avoid this because it just sounds like you're kissing butt and not giving the administration office a real rough idea of who you really are.
Hopefully you won't make that mistake again.

see this is where you need to get into stalker mode and find out as much info about the professors as you can. I'd probably look for newspaper articles or publications they've written t get a better idea of who they are beyond the typical mini bio. It'd take time, but it'd be worth it i think.

Isn't that a bit harsh? First of all, let me say that I think the question is obnoxious -- thank god I didn't have to answer it -- but I don't think this question will have much weight in the end. It's one thing to be interested in the school because of a certain program, but for 90% of the applicants, how could they possibly know what prof they want to study with? The best a student can do (and therefore, an admissions officer can expect) is look up information online. If they really put weight on the question, then certainly people in PA and the surrounding states would have an advantage over someone who lived far away, right?
Since the application process is over anyway, I wouldn't worry too much about who you put down and why. I'm sure they'll get a better feel for the applicant through the other essays anyway.
