Hi,

Is there free easy to use unlimited software that will unzip files?

I have WinZip but it's limited and will expire soon.

I have Windows Vista.

Thank you.

If all you're looking for is unzipping zip files, then I guess the built in feature in XP/Vista is fine. However, you can just use Winzip even after it expires. The only caveat is that you have to wait a couple of seconds after launching it to be able to access the program. Another free alternative is 7zip.

I like to use Wrar. Not only can it unzip .zip files but also .rar files.

^ It's not free. Same limitations as Winzip unregistered.

Almost all archiving/compression applications today open all the major formats. ie. Winzip opens rar files too.

Use 7zip. It's by far the most popular free compressing tool. It's also one of the ugliest if you don't know how to use it.

Basically, you only need to use its explorer context functions ... by:
1) Right-clicking a compressed file and choosing to extract
2) Right-clicking a group of files (or folder) and choosing to compress them

Or PM me, and I'll get you something better.

It depends on what you want to extract or zip up. I've been using Winrar for the longest of time for everything. If you burn, I suggest to uncheck extracting in certain features or associating with ISO files and it will extract fine.

I use WinRAR even though it expired already. A little popup shows up before you extract files, but you just close the popup.

Whenever I install winrar, my anti-malware cries that there's something there. So now I don't trust winrar.

Everyone uses it...
Most likely your anti-malware program detects it is trying to add things like context menu shortcuts (right click send to rar etc) that is often undesired. But its only a check box away in the install options
