Well, I'm currently a sophomore at Cal State Long Beach...and I'm doing extremely well since I'm a liberal studies major (teacher) and the classes are fairly easy...I currently have a 4.0 GPA and I can probably graduate one to two semesters early because I've also been taking winter and summer sessions.
However, I haven't been working ever since I've entered college, and I really need money right now, so I'm going to get a part-time job. This probably means I won't be able to keep up my 4.0 GPA, since I won't have enough time to study and my classes are only going to get harder.
I was wondering if college GPA really matters. I know in high school that GPA is extremely important, but according to my professors, no one that wants to hire you really checks up on GPAs. Just to let you guys know though, I am planning on going to graduate school to get a masters in educational administration. Is a lower GPA going to affect my chances of getting in grad school significantly, say if I get a 3.8GPA instead of 4.0???????
Thanks in advance for answering such a weird question...lol

Yes, GPA is very important, but 4.0 will not get you anywhere if you do not have any E.C
also before you even apply to grad school, you take a test... (different test for different majors) and even though you have high gpa, if you bomb that test, you probably wont get accepted to the grad school that you are applying too.
so my point is, dont worry about if you cant keep up with 4.0 GPA, long as you do good on other factors you are fine.. of course GPA will help you, but not much. Afterall college isnt all about academic, but other factors as well.

4.0 looks good but I don't think it will affect you significantly if you have 3.8-3.9. As long you have other things to put on your application.

yes GPA is important. it is not true that when you get hired for a job they will never look at your grades. of course relevant experience is more important than GPA in terms of employment. for grad school grades will be very important. a 3.8 GPA won't kill you tho :]

when employers do campus recruiting, one of the first cutoffs they use is gpa. then they'll look at the rest of your resume.

Typical resume review process:
1.) Is GPA above 3.0? If no, throw away, if yes, put in keeper pile.
2.) Is GPA above 3.5? If no, set aside, if yes, put in close look pile.
3.) Look at work experience and internships of close look pile, as well as other organization involvement / academic groups and such
4.) If optimal candidate isn't found in the close look pile, then go to the set aside ones that are above a 3.0 but below 3.5
Above a 3.5 or so and you're fine, a drop from 4.0 to 3.9 or 3.8 is just fine, don't worry =)

so I heard college GPA isn't too important if you aren't planning to apply for grad school/exchanges and stuff.
Is that true?
Like, as long as you maintain an average GPA, stay in school and avoid academic probation and graduate, you're basically set.
That's what I've been told!
