im a junior and iwant to go and im working on my portfolio at the moment..
i was wondering if grades/SAT/GPA/extra curr. activities/sports does ANYTHING about acceptance.. i think if you get pretty good SAT scores you can get a scholarship; anybody know the range of scores?

but if I were you I'd focus on the portfolio.
My friend got in based on her portfolio, and she applied on a whim (she didn't think she'd really get in).
Someone from RISD viewed her portfolio and insisted she'd get in.

work on your portfolio. risd is an arts school so they care more bout if you can do the art stuff rather than write good essays and know what year columbus sailed the ocean blue.

I've heard that RISD is harder to get into than other art schools, because they do look at grades, extra curriculars, SAT, etc. But, your portfolio is probably the most important thing.

i'm thinking of RISD myself, and I, too, am a junior.

i know that they dont look at extra curric. activities
first they looka t your portfolio, then GPA. if GPA is good, the SAT's dont matter AS MUCH..however, if your GPA is not..good lol, they go over to your SAT's. on a rare occasion, they will let you in IF your portfolio is freaking awesome

you have to draw 3 things, a bike, a self portrait, and an setting of some sort
the test might have changed since i applied but yeah
other schools just look at your portfolio and grades too but RISD also looks at the three drawings they required you to do....
so i think, if ur portfolio is good and u got decent grades then u can prolly get in any art school but in order to get into RISD, your three drawings have to be EXTRA EXTRA creative and interesting so that you stand out from all the rest.
and believe me, there are A LOT of good portfolios and students with decent grades
so that's why it's a little bit harder to get into RISD than other art schools
unless im totally wrong about this, someone correct me

What if you have good grades, honors and AP courses, etc., but your portfolio is just decent. I'm so worried, because i don't know what a "stellar" portfolio is. Sigh.

if u say ur grades are good then i would suggest drops ur books now pick up a paint brush and start working on ur portfolio
since it's past or close to end of your first semester, you're prolly gonna be sending in current grades for ur application and as long as you dont fail any of them at least a "C" or better by the end of the year, ill doubt they're cancel your acceptance if u get in
i think u find out before school ends right?
anyways the point is stop studying as hard and work on ur portfolio
something that could help u make good protfolio pieces is to attend some art classes at ur school or some after school program or "hak won" (that's korean and if ur not korean then forget about it)
i go to a different art school BTW

And i do take art classes at school(Studio Art--level 3. Next year i'm doing Art Portfolio, which is level 4, the highest at my school), as well as an art hakwon. I just, i don't know, i feel like i don't know what a "good" portfolio is.
Sigh. College stuff stresses me out.

i mean i went to a portfolio specialist hakwon and the teacher i had graduated from Art Center at pasadena and we basically made portfolio pieces every project and depending on your major he would accomodate different projects for each person
the place ur attending might not be so "pro" (a lack of a better word..) as the one i attended but your teacher should definitely know what she/he's doing with ur portfolio, if not i suggest going to a different art hakwon
and a good portfolio isnt something to be compared with
if you feel good about your work and you feel that it conveys your style and what you want the viewer to see and recognize then
i would say that's a good portfolio
also you should show that you know what you're doing and dont come off as an amateur
be proud of your work
