2008 guide to laptop
Does anyone else think that the EEE PC is overrated? Sure it may be small but the performance just isn't there, so much more could have been done.

I thought the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 would be on that -- I would have gone for it except it didn't come with a DVD drive...

I have an EEE 1000HA. It's not that expensive as that site says. performance-wise of course it's not going to be like a full sized laptop, but considering how portable it is and how cheap it is, I think it's a good buy. I carry it in my shoulder bag and it's no problem.

its a very poor list.
It does not separate notebooks from netbooks. They may be similar, but have totally different form factors and functionality.
It also fails to take into consideration that many laptops can go above or below $1000 easily depending on the configuration you choose.
the article is probably more like "the top 8 laptops at Best Buy"

too many netbooks on that list. i think after you use them for a lil while, you realize you're using a computer little more powerful and useful than an iphone/ipod touch/blackberry.
imo, lenovo, acer and asus laptops hold good value under the $1000 price point.

The new Gateway MCXXXX is nice. Has a nice large 16" screen for watching HD movies.
