Fellow Soompiers!

I need the testimonial from YOU (the viewer, audience, fan, and consumer) about K-Pop's (or Asian Pop's) affect on your life.

Thanks all!

in good ways: makes me feel pretty happy sometimes, and gives me inspiration to lose weight. also style inspiration. Kpop also made me join soompi, which made me smarter. o_o (if i hadnt joined soompi, i would still be a teenybopper right now who cant stand dbsk having girlfriends O_o)

in bad ways: people think im a loser, stupid fans make me angry, i have no money.

so yeah. kpop effected my life in many good ways. 1 w00d st1ll typ3 lyk d1s 1f 1 d1dn+ h@v3 kp0p. or rather soompi. thank god it kinda saved my life. (i remember the first time i joined forums. i was so immature and got bashed, which made me change a whole lot.) O_O

bad part is that my friends didnt have the same interests, so it was hard to talk about things. D: also, they would get annoyed at me if i spazzed too much. x_x

It has affected my life. K-pop has bought me happiness, the like of listening to more music, the enjoyment of watching variety shows. Basically, it pulled me out from the boring world I used to live in lol. Oh it also made me have an interest to learn Korean ^^

There's not much negative affects except for, being hooked onto Korean music only, friends calling me a Korean freak lol, but I have influenced some of my friends into K-pop and they like it wink.gif

Well, I guess it did made me grow up a little. It made me appreciate real talent and see celebrities for who they really are rather than what they are. It also made me be more adventurous with the way I live; try new hairstyles, eat new stuff etc. I loved music because of K-pop.

The bad part for me is that my friends sometimes can't relate to me anymore and we disagree on more things now like with Britney Spears--most of them hate her but I just don't. Another thing I guess is that it disconnected me from American music. like totally..

kpop has brought me happiness in life. like what the other users said, it has exposed them to try new things. with kpop i have came through an adventure that wouldn't have happened if i hadn't discovered it. it made me want to play the piano and guitar , and so i did and i'm happy with that. i've learned to love the korean culture and looked up to the way of living. my fashion statement has changed because of kpop and mostly, everything changed for me.

the only negatives is that, my friends and i have nothing in common. while i obsess with the kpop industry, they obsess with people i don't know or don't care about. they probably feel the same way about me. either way, i have soompi and online friends i can spazz with biggrin.gif

None really. I've never listened to any K-pop really. Which brings up the question, why am I here? To which I don't really have a good answer.
I do, however, on occasion listen to J-pop, which I find entertaining.

I think kpop has changed me a lot but in a good way. It sounds weird but it made me experience happiness through others happiness. For example when big bang won artist of the year at mkmf I was estatic. Kpop gave me a reason to love something so much that I practically waste all my time on it. I love the music, shows, dramas, food, style, and culture in general.

The only negagtive thing about it is that because it takes up so much of my time that I tend to neglect a lot of my school work. My family also think im totally weird and my mom always asks "so you want to be korean now or what?". Oh and I also have NO IDEA What's going on in the american world. My brothers gf was talking about britney spears and I didn't even know about her newest songs x.x

i had korean friends in high school and naturally i fell into korean music and culture.
as you can imagine, as a filipino girl (taller, darker, bigger), i suffered massive identity issues in high school.
it's stupid to listen to others about beauty and mini cooper but when all the girls around you are 4-5 inches shorter, and hella skinny, and HELLA pale and it goes for the celebrities you're watching too, like more extreme than american celebrities,
how can one not have those issues?

on the upside, kpop = soompi = some of my really good irl friends (upgraded to irl because of LA soompi meets) and my best friend/roommate ^D^ and the chance to meet people from all over the world (srsly lol hyukmin from norway)

but i mean, for years i hated myself. i said i didn't. but i was straightening my hair, using whitening products, learning how to read and speak korean, trying to dress "fob," denying my filipino culture... trying so hard to be something i am not.

so i guess it's been fun, i still listen to kpop, but i do feel that it had a major negative impact earlier in my life.

it showed me different cultures around the world. and opened my curiosity for history.
making me try to understand the true meanings of the lyrics behind songs and know how there is much more talent and passion in the entertainment industry, instead of just trying to make it and the part of survival. just knowing how us, the fans can change an entertainer's career, by supporting them.

lol though i love kpop... smile.gif

i'd have to say that it is actually ruining me in terms of schoolwork
i get so caught in videos and stuff that i procrastinate waaaaaaaaaay too much in hw and studying for tests and i can't help it because kpop is so addicting and obsessing over bands is so much fun!! crazy.gif

but im really happy i got into it because it has changed me in a good way since now i appreciate music oh so much more

so i guess there's a good side to kpop and a bad side

ALWAYS KEEP THE FAITH.

kpop messed me over big time early on lol. i lived in a predominantly caucasian society before i entered university and listening to kpop led me to believing that kpop was THE best music EVER. no one could convince me that so and so american singer is a better singer than park hyo shin or sg wannabe or whoever. so i basically disconnected myself from my friends(hurt my social life a lot) in terms of music tastes and my thoughts on what was deemed as attractive(pale skin, skinny/slim, double eyelids(LOL), perfectly shaped nose, etc..). it also elevated my thinking of asian superiority. i thought asians were the greatest thing since ziggy's macaroni salad. i think i really set a negative image of myself during my secondary school years because i kept indulging in the kpop scene and letting the lack of asian population in my area get to my head.

i guess it wasnt entirely kpop music's fault, but more me becoming way too obsessed with it. i can finally say im out of that mindset since senior year of HS, kpop isnt a huge part of my life but i still listen to kpop once in a while. as i got further and further away from kpop, i've diversified my music tastes and seriously wondered why i didnt take interest in american or french music in the first place! cause i can friggin understand what they're saying which makes the music much, much more special.

kpop has definitely made some positive impacts on me though. i've come to appreciate extremely good vocal skill in singers, learned about a different culture and how the music industry works over there compared to north america(lol antifans much? crazy).

i started to listen to kpop when i started middle school. this was when G.O.D and shinhwa, and all of those old school groups where pretty popular. and the more i listened... the more i got sucked into that whole k-pop community thing. though~ i might have got caught up in k-pop just a little more than i should have,... it helped me out a lot in my life. before listening to k-pop i only knew how to say certain words and phrases in korea. and i being a full blooded korean didnt really connect well with my oh so strict korean parents. but as i listened to k-pop i began to learn korean because i wanted to know what those lyrics meant. now im fluent in korean. i can read, write, understand and speak. so yeah. k-pop overall had a great influence on me. :]

I've been listening to Asian Pop since I was born, so besides learning the language a bit better, there's not much effect.

I love Korean music. In general I think Korean pwns English so I tend to listen to only Korean music. I love CZQ with all my heart and soul. Alex Chu is my lullaby when I'm sleeping. I listen to go to the gym music when I do work or when I'm stressed. When I feel like murdering someone which is often, I listen to Metallica, ACDC, hard rock, screamo, My Red Jumpsuit etc.

I think I like Korean music more, because they tend to carry more meaning other than cars, sex, and money if you understand. Then again it's hard to find songs that aren't soley about love or anything without subtly racist undertones. So there are pro's and cons of both sides.

I really need to diversify my music library. ^.^ too bad the computer crashed.

and like gjs223, Korean popular culture has kind of slowly invaded my life and I started to make a conscious effort to learn the language: reading, writing, and speaking. I read newspapers and stuff now too. lol.

고사언어만 배우면 원어민 처럼 우리말을 마음것 말하고, 쓰고, 읽을 수있거든요. ^.^

I also tend to listen to music when I'm emotionally spent==>catharsis or when I'm doing busywork, or when I need to do work but people are bothering me. It's an antisocial mechanism.

It, um, made me decide to go into the East Asian Studies program in university. :'D I think Kpop basically confirmed what I knew since I was really little - I love East Asia, I love learning Asian languages, and I want to be a part of that culture. Or maybe I'm another delusional fangirl? xD
