At my school every year, each class does this dance at a rally before the holidays. This guy asked me to be his partner and I used to have feelings for him but I don't anymore. Anyway, the problem is that whenever we practice there is this awkward tension between us but I'm not sure why. I want to make it less awkward but I don't know what to do. Please give me some advice?

You didn't describe the type of awkward. Do you mean you don't feel comfortable around him? Please note, being uncomfortable with someone may be produced by many factors, whether that you don't feel any for him and dislike the idea of suddenly being so close, or that you like him, that's why you're feeling uncomfortable.

more specific...Flick you are wayyyy to analytical lol... as for the OP..its called nature, you used to be into him, now you're not yet he might/probably is, that's an awkward situation, hence the awkward feelings, nothing abnormal there

*awkward face palm!* but no really, it depends on what awkward. lol but usually for any awkward situation you can try to break it with some humor, but if it's more of a physical awkwardness because you used to have feelings for him i'm not sure :X

let's put my korean drama skills into consideration.
after a couple of times, he will say "I love you" and he will Kiss you.
And you'll eventually realise that you also likes him and accepts his kiss.
and then the people around (if there are any) Will look at you and be like "wooooo yeah"
and both guy and girl will stop kissing and look at the other audience in red face.
